Time for another book haul!
It hasn’t been too long since the last book haul, but I wanted to pop in and show you guys what I’ve received in the last few months. They’re a mix of gifted books, published-sent books, and one that I bought for myself (which I do very infrequently these days!). I’ve managed to get another pile about this big since taking these photos, so you’ll have to wait a little bit to see those, sorry. In the meantime, you can find me on Instagram where I post every book I get in the mail in my stories, and then in my Books stories highlights.

The Truth About Magic, by Atticus
This was gifted to me for my birthday from a friend, and I loved reading it. There’s something about Atticus’ poetry that is so simple and yet so beautiful, and while I don’t love read poetry, I could read his for days (I suspect it’s the short-form style). I wrote more about my thoughts on this book over on Blogger’s Bookshelf, so if you’re keen to know a little bit more, head on over to the blog post to read my review!

Chain of Gold, by Cassandra Clare
That’s right, my bookish friends, there’s another Cassandra Clare book out! This was actually supposed to come out last November but for reasons unbeknown to me, it was pushed back till early March. Thanks to Walker Books Aus and Harper Collins NZ, I managed to get a copy of this book in February, with a strict embargo on it, but haven’t actually managed to read it yet. From the reviews I’ve seen so far on Goodreads and my other bookstagram friends, it sounds like it’s a good one and I can’t wait to read it! This is the first book in a new trilogy, called The Last Hours.

Queen of Nothing, by Holly Black
So Queen of Nothing came out in January, and it was actually my first read of the year. For some reason it didn’t make it into the last book haul. While I really enjoyed the first in this series, Cruel Prince, and even enjoyed the sequel, Wicked King, somehow Queen of Nothing was a little flat to me. I think where this book fell short was the plot. It was just a bit ‘meh’ compared to it’s predecessors. But you can read my full review here. Thank you to Allen and Unwin NZ for this review copy.

Shades of Magic Vol. 2: Night of Knives, by V.E. Schwab
If you didn’t know already, V.E. Schwab’s Shades of Magic series is one of my favourites ever, and I plan to re-read at least the first one this year (hopefully I will make that happen!). A few years back she released a prequel series to these novels, but in comic form. The first bind up of those is The Steel Prince, and Night of Knives is the second bind up. I haven’t read it yet but am planning to this month! I got this one from Book Depository.

Yes No Maybe So, by Becky Albertalli and Aisha Saeed
While Yes No Maybe So had been on my TBR list, the lovely people at Harper Collins sent this to me as a gift, and while that was back in December, I am really looking forward to reading it. This here is the ARC cover, so the real ones looks very different, and alas, it got bent in the post. You can’t win them all, apparently.
Have you bought or been gifted any books recently?
