Pile of 6 books, spines facing the viewer. Book haul on This Splendid Shambles.

Is there anything better than a book haul?

Probably not. I haven’t shared a book haul in a little while but believe when I say the books have been coming in. These books are a mixture of publisher-gifted books and books that I’ve just bought because, well they need to be read. I’d love to know what books you’ve read recently, so be sure to leave a comment on this post to recommend (or not recommended!) a book to me!

Let’s get into it!

The Flat Share by Beth O’Leary

I’ve heard so many great things about this book that when Book Depository sent me a complimentary book, I knew this was the one I wanted to choose.

“Tiffy Moore needs a cheap flat, and fast. Leon Twomey works nights and needs cash. Their friends think they’re crazy, but it’s the perfect solution: Leon occupies the one-bed flat while Tiffy’s at work in the day, and she has the run of the place the rest of the time.”

The Iron Raven by Julie Kagawa

Thanks to HarperCollins NZ for this review copy! This is the beginning of a new series in the world of The Iron Fey by Julie Kagawa, which so many people I know have read! This series follows Puck (as in Shakespeare, yes), and his story.

“With the Iron Queen Meghan Chase and her prince consort, Puck’s longtime rival Ash, and allies old and new by his side, Puck begins a fantastical and dangerous adventure not to be missed or forgotten.”

The Island by C.L Taylor

This book is described as ‘Lost meets The Hunger Games’ and it really was! I really enjoyed reading The Island by C.L Taylor. I hadn’t read anything by Taylor before, but it was a really fun read. While I did call the outcome, it was thoroughly enjoyable getting there. You can check out my review of The Island here.

Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco

If you’re into witchy magic, other realms, Halloween-vibe stories, then Kingdom of the Wicked is for you! I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and can’t wait to read the second, Kingdom of the Cursed.

“Emilia and her twin sister Vittoria are streghe—witches who live secretly among humans, avoiding notice and persecution. One night, Vittoria misses dinner service at the family’s renowned Sicilian restaurant. Emilia soon finds the body of her beloved twin… desecrated beyond belief. Devastated, Emilia sets out to find her sister’s killer and to seek vengeance at any cost—even if it means using dark magic that’s been long forbidden.”

Chain of Iron by Cassandra Clare

It would be a year in the life if there weren’t at least one new Cassandra Clare book. I am loving this series, The Last Hours, by Clare, and I think it’s quickly becoming my favourite series. It follows the kids of the main characters in The Infernal Devices and is so full of excellent characters I might just read the first two again before the third one comes out in 2022. You can read my full review of Chain of Iron here.

A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J Maas

Despite the entire fandom being in an uproar at the change of title style (should be A Court of Silver AND Flames) and the fact that I  haven’t finished the other books in this series yet, I was excited to add this one to my collection. It’ll be ready and waiting for me when I eventually read A Court of Wings and Ruin and A Court of Frost and Starlight.

Have you read any of these books? Or hauled any books recently?
