The Story

Fangirl quickly became my favorite Rainbow Rowell novel.

Cather [Cath] and Wren (so named because their mother only had one name, so split it in two when she had twins … ‘Catherine’) have just started college, and while Wren is off having the time of her life, Cath is not. Her roommate, Reagan, is crazy, Reagan’s ‘boyfriend’, Levi, is always around and in their room, she doesn’t want to go to the food hall, and all she wants to do is write her Simon Snow fanfiction before the final book in the series is released.

Fangirl follows Cath as she gets into University life, as she discovers who her true friends are, as she continues to write her fanfic, as she deals with family dramas, ‘friend’ dramas, and as she falls in love. With college parties, campus life, trips home on the weekend, late-night reading-aloud sessions with Levi, and generally finding her way in the world, Fangirl is an awesome story and I will definitely be reading this one again.

My thoughts on Fangirl

Once again, Rainbow Rowell’s writing style is wonderful. I love the way she creates the characters in her stories, and the way she writes. Every character is always so unique and so solid, and you just want to jump into the book and hang out with them. Even the not-so-nice ones. When it comes to main characters, you guys will probably know by now, if you read these reviews, that the main character that I like is hard to come by. But I love Cath. I love how she is a writer, how she feels about starting something so big and new like college, and how she doesn’t really know just how awesome she is. I love Levi too, and once again may have fallen for a fictional character.

If you’re a fan (ha!) of Rainbow Rowell, and you haven’t read this yet (it actually took me a while to grab it off my shelf even though I bought it months and months ago), do read it. Seriously.
