The greatest love is the one you never expected to find.

Daisy is fed up with being unlucky in love, and after several weddings she has done the flowers for end in divorce, her beloved flower shop has gained a reputation of being cursed, thanks to Mayor Kelly and his infamous visions.

Dream Harbor newcomer, Elliot, has been adjusting to town life following his own relationship turmoil. And until now he’s avoided the flower shop at all costs. If the mayor is correct, he doesn’t need any more bad luck in his life.

But with his family coming to visit, Elliot finds himself reluctantly in front of Daisy’s store in need of some flowers. As the petals blossom in the sunlight, Daisy and Elliot might find that love comes when you’re least expecting it…

What is The Daisy Chain Flower Shop by Laurie Gilmore about?

Daisy Chain Flower Shop by Laurie Gilmore is the 6th book in the Dream Harbor interconnected romance series, and this one is the story of Daisy, whose flower shop has picked up an unfortunate reputation.

Thanks to Mayor Kelly’s meddling and a string of weddings she’s arranged that all ended in divorce, half of Dream Harbor thinks the place is cursed. Heck, she thinks she’s cursed.

Elliot’s inclined to believe it too. He’s still finding his feet in town after his own relationship fell apart, and he’s been steering well clear of Daisy’s shop, figuring he doesn’t need any more bad luck (even if she is super cute). But when his mum comes to visit because she thinks he’s not doing well alone, he ends up on her doorstep in need of flowers anyway.

What starts as a reluctant visit turns into something neither of them saw coming, proving the mayor’s curse might not be quite as reliable as everyone thinks.

My thoughts on The Daisy Chain Flower Shop

Laurie Gilmore does it again. It was 2023 when I first discovered these books, and I do believe only the first in the series, The Pumpkin Spice Café, was actually released. Ever since then, I’ve been swept away into this small town romance series, which is interconnected through the characters (and slightly through storylines, though you can read them all separately).

We meet Daisy briefly at the end of the last one, The Gingerbread Bakery, I believe (although please correct me if I’m wrong), and I think Elliott, too, as they’re at an event together and the main characters of the last book are talking about them.

I knew I was going to like Elliott from that small appearance in the previous book – he’s a bit geeky, he’s quiet, he’s sweet. And Daisy is a little all over the place, but is a bright spark running the flower shop (which has been passed down through generations of Daisys in her family).

They’re both a bit awkward, and this really plays out in the story as they pretend to be in a relationship when Daisy’s ex-fiance comes to town (with his new fiance!), and Elliott’s mum still thinks he’s wallowing in singleness. It’s mutually beneficial.

As well as trying to pretend they’re together for appearances, there is a subplot going on where they discover old photographs and are trying to track down answers to why the people in them look so much like Daisy and Elliott.

It was a highly enjoyable tale in Dream Harbor and I still love how the other characters pop up every now and then. As I said, you can read these books separately, but I do think you get a fuller picture and a better overall experience if you read them in publication order.

Have you read this series? What about The Daisy Chain Flower Shop? What did you think?
