Whether you’re a blogger, an avid journal-writer, or just like to write on occasion, it can often be really helpful to have a list of creative writing prompts for your next writing piece.

There are lots of writing prompts out there in the world, but I thought I’d make a list of prompts for bloggers, especially if you’re in the lifestyle niche. These are writing prompts that draw out stories, and the importance of sharing stories within the blog posts we’re writing. Each of them starts with a situation or a short prompt (in bold) and then I expand a little more and give you some more thoughts as to how you can make that blog post really valuable and helpful for your readers.

While sharing our stories and being creative in the posts that we publish is really important, we still need to think about our readers. Broadly speaking, how can what we’ve shared impact, encourage, guide or resource our readers? What can they learn and take from our stories that will help them in their lives?

So when you’re reading through these, keep those questions in mind.

16 Creative Writing Prompts for Bloggers

Write about your biggest fear and how you plan to overcome it. Make it a step-by-step plan so that others can benefit from it.

Imagine a world without technology, describe your day in this world, and give tips or ideas as to how people can put away their devices for a day or two.

Write about a time you took a risk that paid off. What were the things that you did and how have you grown from this experience? What are some of the things that people could take away from this post to help them take (good) risks in their jobs/lives?

Describe a place that holds special meaning to you and why. Share some of the stories and also gives some travel tips for visiting there, or similar places, or a mini city tour.

Write about a challenge you faced and how you learned from it. While our experiences are unique to us, there is always overlap and people have very similar challenges. Give a list of things you’ve learned from your challenge and some encouragement for those going through something similar.

Write about a moment of pure joy and how it impacted your life. How did you grow from that? What did you learn? How are you going to take that with you in the future? How could other people learn from this moment?

Imagine your life in 10 years and describe your goals and aspirations. Then share a plan as to how you’re going to get there. Also, share some simple steps so that others can begin to plan for the big picture.

Describe a person who has had a significant impact on your life and why. What was it that made their actions significant? Are there things from your time together that would benefit your readers?

Write about a personal accomplishment you are particularly proud of. Did you work up to this accomplishment? What were the steps that you took in order to get there? What needed to happen before this moment to make it happen?

Describe a situation where you had to make a tough decision and the outcome. What were the steps you took in making that decision? Would you make the same decision now?

Imagine a day without worries, describe what you would do. Then give your readers some tips or things that you do every day to help ease your worries and stress. Try to make it really practical or provide any resources or exercises that you do.

Write about a passion you have and how it brings purpose to your life. Share some of the ways you have grown into your passion and some of the tools or resources you use to help you live it out.

Describe a time when you had to let go of something or someone important to you. What have you learned from that situation and how does it, if at all, still affect you to this day? What are some ways that you could encourage others in a similar position?

Write about a moment of kindness you experienced or witnessed and how it affected you. Offer your readers a Kindness List – a list of things that could do for others, whether the receiver knows they’ve done it or not.

Describe a place you’ve travelled to and the impact it had on you. Explore the power of travel and provide a list of your favourite places you’ve travelled to and why you loved it there.

Tell your readers about a time when you helped someone in need and how it made you feel. Include a list of ways that readers could help out their community or local charities, either in your city or your country.

Of course, that’s just a start and there are plenty more creative writing prompts for bloggers out there. I hope that these prompts spark a little something in your soul and you’re able to grab a couple of these and run with them.

Remember that they are just that: writing prompts. They’re written to give you some idea of things you could write about but they’re much designed for you to make them your own. Take them, spin them differently, and write them how you like. Or don’t! Completely up to you.

Will you use any of these creative writing prompts for bloggers?
