Super excited to have Sarah from Sarah Sees the World here on the blog today, answering some questions I put to her. Welcome, Sarah!
1. Hi Sarah! Can you tell us a bit about yourself, and also why you started blogging?
I live in Wellington and in real life work in Marketing. My passions are travelling (hardly surprising given my blog genre!), consuming delicious food, coffee and wine, exercising, watching movies and reducing the ‘to-be-read’ count on my bloglovin’ feed. I started blogging as I had been reading a few blogs and wanted my own space on the internet. I started a blogspot blog in 2011, and it took a year or so to find my way and my niche before Sarah Sees The World became closer to what you see today.
2. Most people have a favourite blog post, or one that they’re proud of. Do you have one? Why is it your favourite? (if you don’t have a favourite, what’s your most popular post?)
I don’t have a favourite post, I don’t publish anything I’m not completely happy with so whatever my latest post is tends to be a favourite. My most popular post is about my experience sailing around the Greek islands with friends on The Yacht Week. Check it out here.
Sailing trips, especially in Europe are quickly becoming a rite of passage for travellers and it was such a fun week, an experience I’d recommend to anyone.
3. Your blog is all about travel and adventures around the world. What country that you’ve visited has been your favourite?
So hard to pick a favourite! I loved Croatia though and thought it was really underrated as a destination – inexpensive and beautiful with a lot to offer visitors. Would be keen to go back and explore more of it.
4. What are your top 5 destinations that you’d love to visit but haven’t had the chance to yet?
- South America
- Thailand (November!)
- Vietnam
- Iceland
- Japan
5. If someone was heading overseas for the first time, what would be your number one tip for them?
Take out travel insurance! Fortunately, it’s something I’ve never had to claim on but I worked in marketing on an insurance brand for too long not to understand the benefits of having it and the trouble (financial and otherwise) you could get yourself into if something goes wrong and you are not insured.
6. A lot of the readers here aren’t living in NZ like you and I are. What’s your favourite New Zealand city, and why should people visit it?
I find it too hard to pick a favourite but would recommend visitors don’t skip Napier, Wellington or Queenstown. New Zealand’s just special – if you fly in from somewhere like London or New York it’s particularly apparent that the trees are greener and the sky is bluer, there are the wide open spaces, the streets aren’t too crowded and you’re never far from a mountain or the sea.
7. Moving away from travel now…You’re doing a ’30 by 30′ challenge. Tell us a little about that. How many have you completed so far?
Around my 27th Birthday, I felt like I was approaching 30 incredibly fast without having a whole lot to show for it.
I wanted to feel like I’d ticked some things off in life but didn’t want a ‘Bucket List’. 30 was my deadline to feel I’d achieved some things. Through Google I found 30before30project and it seemed I was not alone. And so, I threw about ideas with friends and family and I wrote my 30 Before 30 – a list of places I’d been meaning to visit, challenges I’d wanted to take on, skills I’d been planning to learn, and personal breakthroughs I’d been hoping to have. At this point I’ve completed 22 and have 8 to go, some of which represent big life goals!
8. What has been your favourite challenge from that? Is there one that you’re working on at the moment, or are about to complete?
Learning to surf is something I’m grateful I got myself out there doing and might not have had I not set myself a deadline. I’ve just booked a flight to Thailand in November which I am extremely excited about.
And just for fun… What’s your favourite:
- Colour – Blue
- Food – Pizza
- Animal -Cat
- Movie – Pitch Perfect
- Book – Gone Girl, by Gillian Flynn
Thank you, Sarah, for being here! I’d love to go to all those countries too! I think I may have been to Thailand when I was super young, but just for a stopover. I would love to go to South America, and hopefully I will at some point. My mum is fluent in Spanish and grew up in Chile, so I’d love to head on over there and check out where she lived.
