Heading To A Cardiff Beach As A Kiwi

We popped off to find a Cardiff Beach (promise there’s a story)

Because New Zealand is an island, it doesn’t take very long to get to the coast. The city I lived in was probably one of the cities that is most inland, but it only took about half an hour to drive to the beach. So, as you can imagine, the beach is a HUGE part of NZ life. And we miss it. So we leapt at the opportunity to head to Wales, and one of the things we had to do was find a Cardiff beach (that’s where we were going – Cardiff).

We found a nice stony beach but had to go to the other side of the park to find the sandy one. While it was very different to the beaches that we have in New Zealand (to be expected), we had a lovely time when we found a Cardiff beach that allowed dogs. Oscar, our Springer Spaniel, had his first experience of water (that’s another thing – there isn’t much water here in Gloucestershire. Sure, there’s the River Severn, but no one wants to swim in that, so we don’t take Oscar down there…so he hasn’t really swum before), and he loved it.

We also went to this huge park in the middle of the city (we didn’t really do anything in town, like shops or anything this time), but it was really nice! Huge open areas, with a river running through it and forest bits and a castle! Really cool! And squirrels! It’s still really weird living in a country that has squirrels!

It was 29 degrees and not a cloud in the sky! Whoever said the UK doesn’t have sun needs to eat their words! Sure it’s been raining for the past month, but since Saturday it’s been beautiful! I even got sunburnt. Here are some of the pictures from the trip.

We had a great time at this Cardiff beach, and even though it wasn’t like the ones back home, it was still wonderful to be able to sit by the water and enjoy the beautiful weather.
