What’s the deal with Pinterest Trends?
In December 2019, Pinterest started rolling out a new feature: Pinterest Trends. Still relatively new feature to the visual search engine, Pinterest Trends can help you grow both your Pinterest account and in turn your blog or business.
If you tap into Pinterest Trends and pay attention to what’s happening on the search engine, then you’re going to see growth.
Where do I find Pinterest Trends?
When you’re in your Business Account, head to Analytics > Trends. You’re then going to see something that looks a little like this.
(Note you can change whether the Trends are coming from US, UK or Canada.)

As you can probably guess, it was just coming into fall (or autumn) when I grabbed this screenshot, and ‘fall decor’ was trending. That’s understandable.
The ‘home edit’ was also trending, but you and I both know that ‘home edit’ is something that is often going to be trending on Pinterest, right? People looking for ways to update their homes.
What was a surprise to me was Draco Malfoy. Now I’m a big Harry Potter fan; I love the stories and everything about the fandom. But Draco Malfoy trending on Pinterest alongside two trends that make more sense? Okay? I guess I’ll run with that.
I’ll tell you something though: I have more content on my blog about Harry Potter than I do about fall.
No lie.
Coz here’s the rub: seeing what’s currently trending on Pinterest (fictional characters or not) is going to help you know what to Pin and what to create.
How to read Pinterest Trends
Along the bottom you’re going to see date ranges; this is reaching back 12 months right up until the day you’re viewing it.

Up the left-hand side, you’ll see numbers. Now, these are not numbers based on searches; it would be weird if there were only 100 searches for ‘fall decor’ at the beginning of the season, right? Those numbers are indicating the search volume.
If you clicked the little question mark by ‘searches over time’, the following memo pops up, and it helps understand what the graph is labelled as it is:
Each data point compares the search volume of a term with all other searches during that week. The results are then indexed from 0 to 100 to compare the relative volume of each term.
So that’s why the highest number of searches SEEMS LIKE it’s only 100.

You can also add another keyword and see how it compares. For example, I added ‘fall crafts’ (green) and ‘fall recipes’ (purple) and you can see the difference. So if I were to create some fall-themed Pins (we’ll talk about that next), going for the original ‘fall decor’ is going to be a winner at the moment.
How to use Pinterest Trends to grow your account and blog
There are a couple of ways you can use Pinterest Trends to grow your Pinterest account and blog.
Use Pinterest Trends to know what to be Pinning to your Boards
Fall is trending, in our example here. Which means people are searching for it. So why not add relevant ‘fall’ themed Pins to enhance your Boards?
The more ‘fall’ related Pins you have in your Boards the more likely it is that people are going to see your account and all the other things you have to offer. When they see that you have a great account that clearly shows who you are and what you’re about, then chances are they’re going to stick around, even if it was a Pin about fall that brought them there.
It’s important to note here that I don’t mean YOUR content about fall (although if you’ve got it, fantastic!). I mean other people’s Pins that are identified by you as relevant to the other things you Pin, but that have been created by others.
Essentially, if the Trend fits with your brand, with your niche or your topics, then jump on that bandwagon.
Use Pinterest Trends to find themes and topics for content creation
Stuck for blogging ideas? Pinterest Trends can help you with that!
Take our friend, Draco Malfoy, for instance (I love how we’re talking Harry Potter right now, you have no idea). If you’re a bit of a geek like me and you write about things such as books, movies, fandoms … then you can easily take the Trend ‘Draco Malfoy’ and write up a post using Draco as a key theme.
But even if you’re not a geek like me, but you’re, say, a coach for writers or you’re a social media manager … this is still going to work for you.
Think I’m crazy? Let’s break it down for a moment.
For Draco, we can ask a few questions which might lead to some content ideas. Remember, no matter what we land on, ‘Draco Malfoy’ is going to be our keyword.

Who is Draco Malfoy?
He’s a character from Harry Potter.
You could talk about HP and be sure to focus on characters or character development or something that brings Draco to the forefront of your post. He is the inspiration for your post, after all.
What does Draco Malfoy do?
Be Harry Potter’s nemesis at Hogwarts.
He’s seen as a bit of a villain. You could write a post about villains in books and give Draco the leading role of the post (he’d love that!).
Why is Draco Malfoy trending?
Click into the Trend and check out what’s going on.
Upon further inspection, Draco is trending alongside Dramione, Harry Potter, and Slytherin.
Use the Related Searches to create a post. For example, Why Draco Malfoy is the worst Slytherin of All Time. You’re not only being controversial, but you’re talking about two Trends on Pinterest: Draco Malfoy and Slytherin.

While this example can only go so far (and sorry if you’re not a Harry Potter fan) I hope you can see where I’m going with this: using Pinterest Trends and little creative thinking is a great way to get ideas for content creation, no matter what you’re niche is, it turns out!
It’s the circle of Pinterest Trends Life
Make sure after you’ve created your content that you create the Pins to go with them and Pin Pin Pin. Pinterest Trends isn’t going to help you if you don’t put the content you’ve created in response to those Trends on Pinterest. Make sure you Pin your content.
Essentially: Use Pinterest Trends to get ideas for content, create the content, create a Pin which goes with that content, put that Pin on Pinterest … where it will be in Pinterest Trends.
I hope that you’ve got the main point of this post: You can easily use Pinterest Trends to grow your Pinterest account and your blog. All it takes is a little creative thinking and a whole lot of keywords.
Overview
Skipped the bottom? Here’s the gist:
Pinterest Trends is a tool you can use to better reach a greater audience on Pinterest, and in turn, bring them to your blog. Use Trends to enhance your Boards by Pinning posts that are Trending, and/or by turning your content to turn into Fresh Pins.
