If you read one book this year, make it The Great Realisation
Back in April, poet Tomos Roberts, aka Probably Tomfoolery, released a video of him telling a story of The Great Realisation to a child before bed. It blew up around the world and rightly so; it was a stunning look at 2020 and coronavirus, and what happened when the world went into lockdown.
Fast forward a few months and the video is now a book, and the lovely people at HarperCollins NZ sent me a copy. And it’s beautiful.
“We now all it the Great Realisation
And yes, since then there have been many.
But that’s the story of how it start …
And why hindsight’s 2020.”
The book version is a transcription of the poem but includes beautiful illustrations done by Nomoco. While it’s a picture a book, it’s definitely for everyone. The poem itself really brings a bit of joy and hope into 2020, to what as been one heck of year so far. “It is a story for all readers, young or old, who dare to dream of a fairer, kinder, more loving world.”
The Great Realisation is out now and can be found pretty much everywhere. I highly recommend pick it up and then buying 10 copies for your friends and family.
Have you seen the video? Read the book? What did you think?
