Since she'd been on the outside, she'd survived an Aether storm, she'd had a knife held to her throat, and she'd seen men murdered.

This was worse.

Exiled from her home, the enclosed city of Reverie, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland--known as The Death Shop--are slim. If the cannibals don't get her, the violent, electrified energy storms will. She's been taught that the very air she breathes can kill her. Then Aria meets an Outsider named Perry. He's wild--a savage--and her only hope of staying alive.

A hunter for his tribe in a merciless landscape, Perry views Aria as sheltered and fragile--everything he would expect from a Dweller. But he needs Aria's help too; she alone holds the key to his redemption. Opposites in nearly every way, Aria and Perry must accept each other to survive. Their unlikely alliance forges a bond that will determine the fate of all who live under the never sky.

About Under the Never Sky, by Veronica Rossi

Under the Never Sky, by Veronica Rossi, has been on my ‘to-read’ list for a while now, so when I saw it in a little book shop for only £2, I knew I had to buy it right there and then. I had heard/read good things about it, and was really looking forward to reading it. I took it house sitting with me last week and started it while I was there. And then four hours later, I had finished it. Yes, I read it in one go, that’s how much I enjoyed it.

When I first read the description, I thought it sounded like Pure, by Julianna Baggott. Pure takes place in a protected dome-like sphere also, and it too has monster-like things on the outside. But I knew I still wanted to read it.

When Aria gets tossed outside the dome of her home, she is scared and thinks she will die, but Perry comes along and saves her. They reluctantly help each other out and eventually become friends…and then more than friends. While they venture through the wastelands, avoiding the cannibalistic tribes and the Aether storms that rage above them, Aria discovers things about her past she never knew, makes a friend she didn’t think was possible to have, and realises that her future is not what she had planned.

My thoughts on Under the Never Sky, by Veronica Rossi

Under the Never Sky, by Veronica Rossi, is a great story that clips along at a fast pace, never a dull moment. I really like how the love story almost seemed plausible. A lot of YA novels, especially dystopian genres I’m finding, have a ‘they meet, they hate each other, oh look they’re in love’ thing going on, where it all happens so fast you can’t even pretend that it could possibly happen in real life. But in Under the Never Sky, Rossi has done a good job at drawing it out more than some other stories, making the connection between Aria and Perry pretty much believable.

It’s written in third person, and the chapters are split between the perspectives of Perry and of Aria, something that Rossi does very well. With brothers fighting, people going missing, virtual realities called Realms, weeks of travelling and a funny best friend, Under the Never Sky is a great read, and at only 374 pages, it doesn’t take long to get through.

This week I have also read the sequel, Through the Ever Night, which I am posting a review of on Blogger’s Bookshelf today. Do make sure you go and check it out!
