Whether you’re just getting started in the blogging world or you’re really to dive a little deeper in what it means to upkeep your blog and see it thrive … YouTube can be a great place to start. But YouTube university for blogging might not be for you.

Coz here’s the thing: the YouTube video that has been seen by millions of people? That’s millions of people getting the same advice. That’s millions of people being taught something pretty that is pretty generic.

You can watch YouTube videos until the cows come home, and you can try and implement what you’re learning on your blog.

And don’t get me wrong – there are so many epic resources on YouTube, and I have learned a lot from discovering bloggers on YouTube and consuming all the great information, inspiration, and even encouragement that they provide.

But those tips and tricks and hacks and magical potions we’re devouring aren’t personalised to what YOU need and the changes that YOU should be making on your blog.

Blogging skills you can learn on YouTube

You can learn so many blogging skills simply by watching YouTube videos. It’s a great place to start your blogging journey and continue to grow and learn as you build your blog. Here are some of the skills you can learn on YouTube:

How to set up a WordPress/Wix/Blogger/SquareSpace etc site
SEO for bloggers
How to use images on your site
All about linking
HTML and CSS

And the list goes on and on. You can learn a lot of generic skills for your blogging endeavours on YouTube, and it really is a good place to hang out.

However! (And you already know what’s coming!)

It’s not personalised to you.

You might learn how to write a good blog post by watching a YouTube video … but that video isn’t going to tell you what YOU might be doing wrong, or how YOU personally can better your content. It’s not going to look at your blog and give you suggestions for how you might be able to make it even better than it already is, or which parts of your site need a little work.

YouTube university for blogging is generic. Which, again, is fine. But it might not be what you need.

Let me guess …
