Well it’s the talk of the internet at the moment. Okay, I don’t know if that’s true, but it really really should be. Who remembers a computer game from when they were kids in the 90s, which was a mixture of puzzles and logical thinking, and adventure? I’ll give you a clue…it’s in the title of this post, and in the banner just above you there. Kinda gives it away, huh?
I don’t think I actually ever had Zoombinis at home, but my friend had it and I used to play at her house. We possibly had it at school too, which would also explain why I remember it so well. If you’ve never heard of this game until recently, you fall into 3 categories: a) you were too old to care, b) you were living under a rock, or c) you weren’t born yet. But for those of us who were kids in the 90s, Zoombinis was one of those games that your parents didn’t mind you playing because it was testing your logical thinking skills with puzzle-like challenges along the way. I’m going to credit my straight As in my Logic paper at university to all those hours playing this marvellous game.
At the beginning of this year a Kick Starter project was launched that had all us 90s kids backing it (sadly, I did not know about it until recently, so I couldn’t contribute or back it), to re-release the game in app form. “What?” You ask. “You mean all those kids from the 90s are finally able to relive their childhood through one of the best games ever?” Yes. Correct. On August the 6th 2015 , Zoombinis entered the app world. Welcome to the 21st century, small blue blobs with sunglasses and skates! Welcome!
At the moment, it’s available for iOS (but only iPad currently) and Android stores, but apparently “Mac, Windows and Kindle Fire versions coming late summer 2015” – according to the website. Wikipedia tells me that it “is scheduled for release for Windows and Mac in September 2015.” Brilliant! Next month! While it’s not free, but it’s so so worth the small amount you pay for it. I really want it to be released for either Kindle Fire or Microsoft Surface, because as of this moment, I can only play it on my phone and there’s barely any room on it at all. I think it’s going to stop allowing me to take pictures on it soon. But it’s so much fun and I’m reliving my childhood! K bye. I’m off to conquer worlds using logic and blueberry-looking creatures.
