Today marks a week since the release of the extremely anticipated live-action Beauty and the Beast. Unfortunately, and much to my dismay, the movie isn’t released here in New Zealand until the 30th. What.The.Heck. I haven’t even seen it yet. Oh man. Don’t even get me started.

So to tie me over (*angry breathing*) for another week, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to do this awesome Beauty and the Beast Book Tag. It was originally created by Kirsty and the Cat Read, and has since been taken up but a whole lot of bloggers and vloggers.

1. “Tale As Old As Time” – A popular theme, trope or setting you will never get bored of reading

Trope: “a significant or recurrent theme; a motif.”

A definite trope in Young Adult books these days is that the best friend is slightly-off-their-rocker, they’re a bit mad, or different, or quirky. They’re possibly not in a clique at school, or they’re the ‘outcast’ but the main characters loves them for some reason. I’m thinking Simon Lewis (band geek, Downworlder best friend), I’m thinking Ron Weasley, Eliot in The Magicians.

I love me a quirky sidekick character, so I will never get sick of this trope. Read more about my thoughts on sidekicks in question 5!

2. Belle – A book you bought for it’s beautiful cover that’s just as beautiful inside too

Book: Between the Lines, by Jodi Picoult and Samantha van Leer

I haven’t’ even read this book yet, but how beautiful is it? I wrote an entire post about gorgeous this book is. Stunning. You can see the inside of the book in that post.

3. Beast – A book you didn’t expect much from but pleasantly surprised you

Book: The Shadow Queen, by C.J. Redwine

I didn’t really expect this to be wonderful, it being another fairy-tale retelling, but I really liked this book! I haven’t read too many retelling of fairy tales (having not leapt into the Luna Chronicles yet) so I didn’t really have too much to go on. However, brilliant book. It definitely surprised me.

4. Gaston – A book everyone loves that you don’t

Book: The Sky Is Everywhere, by Jandy Nelson

I don’t know if everyone loves this book, but it has 4.4 star rating on Goodreads, and that’s mighty high. I read this book, and it was okaaaaay, but I only gave it a 2 stars. I just couldn’t really get into it, and feel like I almost wasted time reading it. I like Gaston better than I like this book

5. Lefou – A loyal sidekick you can’t help but love more than their counter part

Oh boy. Just one? There are so many that fall into this category for me! I find that the sidekicks are often more enjoyable than their ‘heroes’.

6. Mrs. Potts, Chip, Lumier & Cogsworth – A book that helped you through a difficult time or that taught you something valuable

Books: The Harry Potter series, by J.K. Rowling

It’s really hard to go an entire post without mentioning HP at least a few times. Especially in book related posts. But seriously, Harry Potter was really the series that boosted my love of reading. It taught me so much about so many things, and it’s forever my go-to book series for a pick-me-up.

7. “Something There” – A book or a series that you weren’t into at first but picked up towards the end

The Star-Touched Queen, by Roshani Chokshi, was so hard to get in to! I had been on a role with books in February, the majority of which i had read in one sitting, or max 2 days. But then I picked up The Star-Touched Queen and I struggled way my through the first half of the book. Then something happened and it finally got a little more interesting. Didn’t really enjoy it much though.

8. “Be Our Guest” – A fictional character you’d love to have over for dinner

Oooh. Well there’s probably someone from every book I’ve ever read. But because it’s fresh in my mind right now, possibly Kell from A Darker Shade of Magic series by V.E. Schwab. I just love his character so much! Can’t wait to read the final in the series, A Conjuring of Light. Honourable mentions, though: Levi from Fangirl,  another of the Harry Potter characters, Will Herondale from The Infernal Devices … oh man. I have to stop, otherwise I’ll be here forever.

This was such a fun book tag to do! Definitely getting me even more excited for the release of Beauty and the Beast!

What would your answers be for some of these?
