5 Fave Instagram Stories to Follow

It’s no secret I love Instagram Stories.
Most days I share some snaps on Instagram Stories and give you guys a little insight into life in Anjali land, and I hope you enjoy those.
What I love about Instagram Stories is how differently everyone seems to use them. Bloggers often share new posts or behind-the-scenes antics; musicians share snippets of their days so you can see what it’s like off the stage or out of the studio; artists share their progress, their thoughts, and their plans for new projects; friends tag each other in event pictures or snap their delicious looking food for the world to drool over.
I currently follow about 550 people on Instagram, but not everyone posts stories, and I don’t watch everyone’s. But there are a few people who I follow that I have the Instagram Story notification set to ‘on’ for (a great feature, I think!). I’ve tried to give a bit of a range of ‘genres’ of accounts so there’s more chance you might find one that sounds like your kind of jam.
Victoria/V.E Schwab – @veschwab
Victoria/V.E Schwab has to be one of my favourite authors. Her Shades of MagicΒ series is now a fave of mine, and I am so super excited for upcoming releases. What I love about Schwab’s Instagram Stories is that she not only shares about the book tours, events and interviews she’s doing, but she shares about her writing processes, her struggles with her current projects, her cat Oliver, and the plans she had but didn’t quite get to. It’s a really great insight into what it’s actually like to be a best-selling author. She also interacts with her followers, answers questions, and gives tips on writing. Definitely recommend if you’ve read any of her books (and even if you haven’t!), or if you’re a budding writing.
John Crist – @johnbcrist
You don’t have to be a Christian or in anyway connected to the Church to enjoy John Crist‘s humour. While the majority of his jokes, posts, and Instagram Stories are about Christian subculture (it’s good to laugh at yourself sometimes), there’s lols to be had no matter what you believe. Crist’s Insta Stories are mainly him chatting about seemingly mundane things, like finding a Coke bottle with a strange name on it (which then led to a whole story on naming your kids normally, with normal spelling), or trying to get through the Drive Thru with no car, but somehow they’re hysterical and brilliant.
Young House Love – @younghouselove
I’ve been following John and Sherry Petersik’s blog for many years now, and while I haven’t quite got around to listening to their podcast, I do enjoy watching their Instagram Stories. They share all about their house renovation projects, DIY home-ware, tips and tricks for house renos, and heaps more. Definitely a must-follow account if you’re planning on renovating, or if you’re like me and you just love paint palettes, fancy door frames and book shelf decor.
Kristen Corradeno – @shutupkristen
This is an account for all you geeks out there. As well as her blog and YouTube channel, Kristen definitely has a fun Instagram account. Shut Up Kristen! is a combination of all the geeky things she loves in life, and all the cosplay shenanigans she gets up to. As well as general snaps of her life, there is a whole lot of Harry Potter content (mixed with pretty much every other fandom you can think of), the sharing of Pop figures, fun DIY ideas, and even music parodies.
The Bucket List Family – @thebucketlistfamily
Chances are you’ve seen The Bucket List Family account on Instagram before, or even online in an interview or publication. They’re pretty well known around the world, especially if you have a love of travelling. The short version of their story is that they are literally a bucket list travelling family. Garrett and Jessica Gee, with their three kids Dorothy, Manilla and Cali travel the world, exploring exciting new countries, eating delicious food, and sharing about everything they do on their YouTube channel, and of course, Instagram. Their Instagram Story is a collection of video sneak peeks, pictures from exotic places, events they’re hosting, and hints at where in the world they’re going next. The family members all have their own accounts too, which are also worth the follow. @jessgee @garrettgeeΒ @dorothygee @manillagee @caligee
Honourable mentions
A post like this wouldn’t be a post like this without a few honourable mentions thrown in.
The Collective Noun is a radio show in Australia (we try not to hold that against them), and they’re hilarious; Heather atΒ Bookables shares unboxings, new books, and reviews; Kaylah at The Dainty Squid shares her beach trips, abandoned buildings, and stunning photography; Georgie at Georgie Eats is an Auckland blogger and is constantly sharing incredible looking bites on her Insta stories; and Jessie CaveΒ posts all her doodles on her Instagram and in her daily stories, as well as life with young kids, and her comedy shows.
Of course there are many more great Instagram accounts to follow (find me here! heh heh), many of which post brilliant stories, but there’s just a taster of some of the people I follow along with. Let me know if you follow any accounts that you really enjoy!
