The BoMoSh September - This Splendid Shambles

Welcome to the BoMoSh!

The BoMoSh is a post for Books, Movies and Shows. I’ll be sharing what I’ve read and seen in the last month, and I always welcome suggestions for books, shows and movies. Leave me a comment if you think there’s something that I might enjoy.

Books |  6 and a bit

  • Mooncakes by Suzanne Walker, illustrated by Wendy Xu (graphic novel)
  • The Evil Queen, by Gena Showalter
  • Bloodlust and Bonnets, by Emily McGovern (graphic novel)
  • Frankly in Love, by David Yoon
  • They Both Die at the End, by Adma Silvera
  • The Upside of Unrequited, by Becky Albertalli
  • Started Crooked Kingdom, by Leigh Bardugo

It took nearly three weeks to read The Evil Queen. It’s not that I didn’t like it, per se, but it just wasn’t a gripping story. You can read more about that on my review. I’ve been getting into graphic novels via NetGalley recently so these stories were given to me by publishers via NetGalley. I’ve always struggled with eBooks, or rather full on novels on Kindle or other device (it’s just not the same!), but I find I actually really enjoy graphic novels in the format.

They Both Die at the End, by Adam Silvera and The Upside of Unrequited, by Becky Albertalli were both audiobook reads, one on my road trip down the country, and the other on the way back 5 days later. I loved They Both Die at the End and I can’t wait to read more of Silvera’s books. The Upside of Unrequited was okay, and I enjoyed it for the most part. It wasn’t my favouirte Albertalli book (Simon vs the Homo-sapiens Agenda is still my fave) but it was still a fun read/listen.

I also picked up Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo for the second time. This completes my re-reading of all her books (minus King of Scars which only came out this year), and it was my pick for this month’s Blogger’s Bookshelf Book Club theme: ‘also a movie or tv show’. While it’s not actually either of those things, they are currently making a Grishaverse show, which will include the characters and some of the story line from this duology.

Movies | 1

  • Downtown Abbey: The Movie

While I only watched on movie this month, The Downtown Abbey movie was everything I wanted and needed it to be. It was glorious and you need to watch it if you’re a Downtown fan.

Shows

This month I discovered the Lightbox has Season 6 of Brooklyn 99 on it, so I’ve been enjoying that. I’ve also been making my way through Stranger Things S3, Dead to Me S1, Lucifer S4, Elite S2. There’s just so many things I want to watch, but boy do I not have the time. I’m not really one to watch tv shows or movies during the day on a day off, so I sort of limit myself to the evenings. But the issue is that I’m out most evenings, or if I’m home then I’m writing or reading. What I need is an entire week off, just me and Netflix-watching. That’d be ideal.

What have you read and watched this past month?
