Time for the last book haul of 2019! (Probably.)

I realise there are still a few weeks left of 2019, but in all honesty, I don’t think I’m going to have the time nor the will power or motivation to get another book haul together by the end of the year. So this will be the last one for the decade (omgosh), despite the fact I probably have enough new books to create another post.  You’ll just have to wait till 2020!

In this week’s book haul, I’m sharing the books that I bought in the November Barfoot and Thompson 24 Hour Book Sale here in Auckland. I realise we’re mid December, but bear with. Christmas is a busy season. Every year on the first weekend of November there’s a 24 hour books sale at the Barfoot and Thompson stadium. It runs from 9am Saturday to 1am Sunday, then there’s a break and they’re open again about 7am until 3pm on the Sunday. It’s wonderfully full on!

The first couple of years I went I filled up boxes and brought home between 30 and 40 books, but in the more recent years my numbers have gone down a lot, given that I’m working with publishing companies these days reviewing books. This year I only bought a small pile, and even gave them about 11 books to sell.

Anyway, enough babel. Here’s my book haul from this year.

Rick Riordan books

I’m slowly making a collection a Rick Riordan books. Granted, I’ve only read the first two Percy Jackson books but I really love the idea of the stories, and jumping back into Classics and Greek myths. I managed to find these all at the book sale, which is a great addition to my current books. Now to get to reading them …

Angel Mage, by Garth Nix

Okay so confession. I haven’t read any Garth Nix books. I have the whole The Old Kingdom/Abhorsen series, but have yet to read them. Despite that being the case, I couldn’t bring myself to walk past this one. And it’s an ARC copy, recently released and obviously donated to the book sale by a book reviewer or blogger (*waves*).

Best of Me, Safe Haven and Dear John, by Nicholas Sparks>

I’m not actually a big reader of Nicholas Sparks, but I really want to read some more of them. I have quite a few now, and they’re not very long. Perhaps this will be the summer of Nicholas Sparks and a bit of romance. We’ll see.

Passenger, by Alexandra Bracken

I’ve been meaning to pick up this book for a while now, and now that I have my own copy, I have no excuses.

A Monster Calls, by Patrick Ness

“Tonight, when he wakes, there’s a visitor at his window. It’s ancient, elemental, a force of nature. And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor. It wants the truth.” Hulllooooo, let’s go. This book has been out since 2011, but I have yet to read it. Such is life.

Slated and Fractured by Teri Terry

Back in the day (2013) I read Slated by Teri Terry and really enjoyed it. But did I ever pick up the rest of the series? Negative. Nope. No I did not. So know I have two in the series and little more motivation to continue. It’s been too long, however, so I’d definitely need to read the first one again.

The Children of Hurin, by J.R.R. Tolkien, edited by Christopher Tolkien

Being a The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit fan I’ve always wanted to pick up some of the other books and stories set in Middle Earth. While I have The Silmarillion, I have  yet to read it, surprise surprise. So now that I have two additional books, it might be time. Or past time.

Had any book hauls recently?
