12 Days of Christmas Book Tag

Christmas is nearly here! Whether you’re ready for it or not! This year I stumbled upon a great 12 Days of Christmas Book Tag by Lizzie Loves Books YouTube channel. There is a number of Christmas Book Tags out there but this is the one I’ve chosen to do.

What better way to celebrate the upcoming festive holiday season than by compiling lists of books! Okay so you might have better plans, but I for one, love a good Christmas list of books. Even though these aren’t specifically Christmas books, doing great book tags like this one brings me pure joy.

What is the 12 Days of Christmas Book Tag?

The 12 Days of Christmas Book Tag is 12 prompts to answer with book titles. It’s a great way to share your favourite novels with the world. If you can’t think of something in particular, list a couple or skip the question. No rules here!

So let’s stop talking about the book tag and dive right on in!

The 12 Days of Christmas Book Tag

1. A Partridge in a pear tree: Favorite Stand-Alone Book?

I love a stand-along book. While a trilogy or a saga definitely has its place and I do love them too, there’s something wonderful about diving into a stand-alone book that you know it’s going to wrap up in 400ish pages.

My favourite stand-alone book, however, is a hard one to pick. But I really loved The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by Victoria Schwab, and I think that’s up there with one of my favourite stand-alones.

2. Two Turtle Doves: Fictional OTP/Favorite Ship?

Oof right here on day two of the 12 Days of Christmas Book Tag and I am struggling. Couples that I love together are Hermione and Ron from Harry Potter series, Feyre and Rhys from A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas, Aragorn and Arwin from The Lord of the Rings … oh man, stop me now. I need to stop.

3. Three French Hens: Favorite Trilogy?

A Darker Shade of Magic by Victoria Schwab is one of my favourite trilogies. As is the Scythe series by Neal Shusterman. So many trilogies I go to mention in this one I remember have gone beyond three books.

4. Four Calling Birds: Favorite Fictional Beast/Creature?

I can’t go past a book with a dragon in it. Eragon was one of my all-time faves when I was a teen, and reading that book and knowing that Christopher Paolini, the author, was only 15 when he wrote it, made me want to be a writer. Am I a writer? Not in the sense that he is, but it still helped.

Other great books with dragons are Harry Potter series, The Last Namsara by Kristen Ciccarelli, and The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien.

6. Six Geese a Laying: Rotten egg- What’s your least favourite book?

Oof! There have been some doozies over the year! I don’t tend to read a lot of 1-star books, as I know myself pretty well to choose books I’ll end up not enjoying. But I did write a book review of Beast, A Tale of Love and Revenge, by Lisa Jensen which is a book I really did not enjoy. I thought it had potential, but overall … not for me.

7. Seven Swans a Swimming: Show a Book with Water on the Cover

Just one book with water on the cover? Sure. Here’s The Vanishing Deep by Astrid Scholte. I really enjoy Scholte’s stories. They’re very unique, creative, and intriguing all at once. If you haven’t read any of her books, then I recommend checking them out!

8. Eight Maids a Milking: What fictional food do you wish you could taste?

Literally anything from the Harry Potter series. Or the food that Hobbits eat.

9. Nine Ladies Dancing: Favorite dance between two characters?

Great book tag question! Can I say Ron Weasley and Professor McGonagall? Because that’s where my mind goes straight away. They also did that scene in the movie very well.

10. Ten Lords a Leaping: Favorite Book-To-Movie-Adaptation?

Lord of the Rings, hands down, is the best ever.

But also Star Dust by Neil Gaiman. I absolutely love this movie and I made the mistake of reading the book after I had seen it. And I’m really sorry, Gaiman, but I didn’t like the book much at all. And I really enjoy Neil Gaiman’s stories. But for whatever reason, it just didn’t do it for me! But the movie is wonderful.

11. Eleven Pipers Piping: Favorite Book-To-Movie-Adaptation Soundtrack?

Okay. So the Lord of the Rings again for this one, because it gives me goosebumps every time.  But The Fault in our Stars has a great soundtrack, and I recall Divergent having a good soundtrack too.

12. Twelve Drummers Drumming: It’s the end of the song; what’s your favourite book ending?

Endings are hard. They’re hard to write, they’re hard to read. And I don’t enjoy authors needing to end their books all the time. Where there have been books where I really have not enjoyed the ending, and books where I thought the ending was good but also could have been better … I’m not sure I have a favourite.
