It’s time for the Coffee Book Tag!
After a little bit of hunting around, I’m pretty sure that the Coffee Book Tag was created by BangadyBangz on YouTube. I really love the idea of this book tag. I’m definitely a coffee girl (though I do love my tea, too), and one of my favourite things to do is head to a coffee shop, with a book and just sit for hours and read. I love the coffee smell and the hustle and bustle and white noise that a coffee shop brings. Many of my Instagram posts are of books and coffee, and I can’t start my day without a cup of joe.
The Coffee Book Tag was really fun to answer; let me know what your answers would be down in the comments!
1. Black: Name a series that’s tough to get into but has hardcore fans
Game of Thrones, by G. R. Martin.
Okay, so to be completely honest, I haven’t even tried. I’m one of those people who has seen (and really enjoyed) the T.V. show, but hasn’t read the books. I remember my friend reading them and always being super excited about the next book. But I think the scale of the series and the size of the books sort of put me off. I guess that’s the reason it’s tough for me to get into.
2. Peppermint mocha: Name a book that gets more popular during the winter or a festive time of year
I suspect books with Christmas themes will be more popular at Christmastime. Makes sense, doesn’t it? I don’t really do this with books – read a certain book in a certain season. But I do have a few seasoned-themed books, like Let It Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle, and I did read Lily and Dash’s Book of Dares at one stage which is Christmassey.
3. Hot chocolate: What is your favourite children’s book?
I used to love love love Enid Blyton books. Particularly The Magic Faraway Tree and The Wishing Chair. I think they were probably my first glimpse at a sort of fantasy kind of world, and I loved the stories that each book held.
4. Double shot of espresso: Name a book that kept you on the edge of your seat from start to finish
Ready Player One, by Ernest Cline
I don’t know why it took me so flippin’ long to read this book, but this year I did and it was amazing, and intense, and there was so much going on, and you guys, I loved it. Check out my review here.
5. Starbucks: Name a book you see everywhere
The books that I see all the time at the opshop are the Dan Brown books. They’re everywhere. I have actually read a few, but not all of them. I managed to get through The Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons, Deception Point, and The Lost Symbol. So I don’t know if it’s because people read them and then don’t want them anymore, or what the story is, but they’re always at the second hand shops.
6. That hipster coffee shop: Give a book by an indie author a shutout
I don’t really know what differentiates an ‘indie’ author, but I’m going to pretend this is an author who not many people have heard about or read many of their books. If that’s what I’m changing it to, then my pick for this on is Sidekick, by Auralee Wallace. While I have yet to read the second in the series, I loved the first one.
7. Oops! I accidentally got decaf: Name a book you were expecting more from
Children of Blood and Bone, by Tomi Adeyemi
I really wanted to love this book. For some reason I just didn’t enjoy it. I found it a chore to read, and that’s really upsetting because it sounded so good! My conclusion to me not liking it was that I just reading it at the wrong time. Hopefully I’ll pick it up again in the future and actually enjoy it.
8. The perfect blend: Name a book or series that was both bitter and sweet but ultimately satisfying
The Harry Potter series, by J.K. Rowling
I can’t go an entire post without mentioning Harry Potter. Obviously I’m a huge fan, and I will stand by Harry Potter until the very end. The ending was bitter sweet for me because, while it was satisfying and I was all good with it, story wise, it was the end of my favourite series of all time. And yes, there has been more HP related content since then, but it’s not the same as lining up every year to get your hands on the latest book, is it?
