Take a visit to the Avocado Orchard in Auckland
An avocado orchard in Auckland, you say? Sign me up!
My friend told us about this orchard which is in the middle of nowhere, out near Auckland Airport near the beach, and you can go and pick avocados! We are big lovers of avocados in our house, so this was the best news ever.
On Good Friday we decided we would venture out and try and find this place, and it turns out it wasn’t difficult. It’s located at the Ōtuataua Stonefields which is in Mangere.
When you get there, you walk down a long driveway which leads to various walks and information boards about a couple of things, and then just to the left of the road there’s a little gate and a tiny sign for the orchard.
I had never been to an avocado orchard but it was really neat seeing them all hanging from the trees as opposed to in piles at expensive prices in the supermarket. People had obviously been there a lot because all the avocados were high up in the trees, and you weren’t allowed to bring ladders to get them.
We found a lot on the ground though, so we picked those up.

The Avocado Orchard in Auckland is a lot of fun to visit if you’re in the area. Just make sure you play by the rules and only take 5 per person; they’re there for everyone, not just you and your love of gauc. 😉 You can go between November and March each year.
