Checking out Tasca in Auckland

I’m super impressed with myself for getting along to my second Brunch Club of the year. That’s actually not that good, track record wise, and I feel like I’ve missed so many this year, but life is busy, my friends, and sometimes I just can’t make it work.

This past Sunday, however, I could, and I headed along to Tasca in Mt Eden to have brunch with the lovely people at Brunch Club. If you’re unsure what Brunch Club is, it’s a sister group of NZBloggers, which is a group of bloggers from around New Zealand (yup, exactly what it sounds like). Brunch Club happens nearly every month in Auckland, as well as some of the other cities around the country. We get together for food and coffee at a different place each month, catch up, and talk about everything blogging.

It’s a really great way to connect with other bloggers, even if they don’t blog about similar things. The other thing I love about Brunch Club is that I never feel awkward about heaving out my huge camera and taking photos of not only the food but the place we’re at too. Everyone has their phones and cameras out, and it’s wonderful.

The last Brunch Club I went to was at GAINZ, but before that the previous one that I managed to heard along wasn’t since 2015 when we went to Jack Tar. That’s a long gap between events, so I was super glad I managed to head along to this one. Anyway, enough jibber jabber.

 

We headed along to Tasca in Mt Eden, which I hadn’t been to before, and it was really neat. The website says:

“The Tasca Cafes, inspired by the back street tapas bars of Spain, are comfortable local eateries – big on ambiance and tasty food – small on formalities. Each location has taken on its own personality, and both offer a bit of European charm and an escape from the rat race. We look forward to hearing from you – whatever your request!”

The decor was wonderful, and I loved being surrounded by all things Spain and Spanish. We were seated at a big group table out the back, outside under the awnings, and it was really beautiful. There were lights and fun seats, and blankets if you got cold.

When I go out for a meal, I tend to get things that I wouldn’t or couldn’t easily make at home. I’ll never get things like pancakes or waffles, because those are normal things that I don’t want to have to pay for. But on this particular day I was really craving French Toast. So that’s what I had. And I was not disappointed.

Yes, that’s French Toast. And yes, it was amazing. French Toast with poached apple, blackberries, cream & maple syrup,  add bacon. Obviously I added bacon. But deliciousness aside, look at that presentation. Stunning.

Jessie from Nailed It NZ got the Moorish Eggs baked with kefta meatballs, tomato salsa, fresh coriander and flat leaf parsley, served with hot Turkish bread. And I can confirm from a sneaky taste of hers that it, too, was delicious.

After we finished up, we were surprised with plates of churros, with chocolate sauce and cream. What a way to finish a meal.

If you haven’t been to Tasca before, I highly recommend it. Great food, decent prices, fun decor and very Spanish. Quick shout out to our waitress, who looks after the Tasca social media. You guys should go and check out the amazing food on their Instagram page.
