Welcome to the BoMoSh!
The BoMoSh is a post for Books, Movies and Shows. I’ll be sharing what I’ve read and seen in the last month, and I always welcome suggestions for books, shows and movies. Leave me a comment if you think there’s something that I might enjoy.
Books | 6
- Hunting Prince Dracula, by Kerri Maniscalco
- Tails You Win, by Gill Rowe (poetry)
- Break Your Glass Slippers, by Amanda Lovelace (poetry)
- Dear Girl, by Aija Mayrock (poetry)
- The Near Witch, by Victoria Schwab
- Artemis Fowl and the Atlantis Complex, by Eoin Colfer
Managed to get in some poetry this month! I read three poetry collections, all granted early access by Netgalley, and while Tails You Win was super random but kind of endearing, I really enjoyed the other two. They were both short form poetry (which, I’ve learnt, is the only poetry I actually enjoy reading), and were beautifully crafted.
The Near Witch was my pick for Blogger’s Bookshelf Book Club for February (the theme being ‘a book with a tree or leaf on the cover’), and while it wasn’t my favourite Schwab book, it was still interesting to go back to her debut novel and see how far she’s come as a writer and crafter of stories.
The reason why I read Artemis Fowl book 7 is a bit of a long story. Basically last year Eoin Colfer released another book in this world, called ‘The Fowl Twins’, and it follows the story of Artemis’ twin brothers. I got ‘The Fowl Twins’ from the wonderful people at Harper Collins NZ last year to read and review, but I realised I hadn’t actually finished reading the Artemis Fowl series itself.
I could probably have read ‘The Fowl Twins’ without having finished the Artemis Fowl series, but I thought … What if I can’t?! This meant that I had to finish the series I started as a kid (but for whatever reason never got around to reading the last two books), which I have … or thought I had. As it turns out I only had books 1 – 6 and then book 8. Which means I was missing book 7 and that’s the one I was up to. A trip to the library was in order, and I finally got ‘The Atlantis Complex’ to read, so I can then read my copy of ‘The Last Guardian’ … and in turn finally read ‘The Fowl Twins’. Sorry Harper Collins, but I’m getting there!
Movies
‘Did I even see any movies this past month? ‘ I wonder as I try and compile a list. The answer is ‘no, no you did not’. I am, however, very excited to see Emma which is just recently out in cinemas here in NZ. Has anyone seen it yet? I’m going this coming weekend!
Shows
I’ve been continuing (slowly) through Supernatural Season 12 this month, as well as catching up on the last season of New Girl, which for whatever reason I never got around to. I’m really looking forward to Elite Season 3 which is coming out this month on Netflix. It’s a Spanish show about an elite private school in Spain and all the drama and murder (gasp) that goes on. It’s really good, and if you can cope with the dubbed version (which I cannot!) or you’re happy to watch in Spanish and read subtitles (which is what I go for – also it’s good to improve my Spanish haha), then it’s a good watch!
What have you read and watched this past month?
