The BoMoSh March - This Splendid Shambles

Welcome to the BoMoSh!

The BoMoSh is a post for Books, Movies and Shows. I’ll be sharing what I’ve read and seen in the last month, and I always welcome suggestions for books, shows and movies. Leave me a comment if you think there’s something that I might enjoy.

March has been a really really weird month. New Zealand went into COVID-19 Level 4 Lockdown on the 26th of March, which is going to last for at least four weeks, if not longer, as work as a nation to eradicate coronavirus from our country. With all that going on, there was nearly a week where I just didn’t read anything.  I wasn’t motivated to pick up a book, and I got into a bit of a slump. April is going to look a lot different, as we’re spending basically the whole month in lockdown. That means more books (hopefully) can be and will be read.

Books | 4

  • The Atlantis Complex, by Eoin Colfer
  • The Last Guardian, by Eoin Colfer
  • The Fowl Twins, by Eoin Colfer
  • The Vanishing Deep, by Astrid Scholte

As you can see, bit of a quiet month in the book department. I also had a bit of Colfer binge, with another one that I need to read sometime this month too (Highfire, which is his new adult novel). There will be a review coming soon of The Fowl Twins, but I haven’t and won’t be reviewing the other two seeing as they’re really old now. I might do a review of the whole series, if anyone is interested in that (drop me a comment!).

Astrid Scholte’s new book, The Vanishing Deep, was really good, and if you’re into books about family and siblings, dystopian worlds, a bit of fantasy thrown in too, then this a great pick for you! It also was by book of choice (along with The Fowl Twins) for the Blogger’s Bookshelf Book Club pick for March, which was ‘a book about siblings’.

Movies

Despite having more time on my hands, I haven’t watched any movies yet in lockdown (but we’re only up to day seven, so there’s plenty of time!) but I did go and see Emma at the cinema with friends before the country started putting in restrictions. It was really good, and it was so nice to watch another Jane Austen movie.

Shows

Like movies, haven’t upped my show watching yet either (give it time), and I’m actually all over the show with what I’m watching. I’ve started watching season 5 of The 100, which I actually started a while ago but can’t quite remember what I’m up to. I suspect I’ve seen the first few episodes because they’ve seemed rather familiar. But I’m also watching Single Parents season 1 on Lightbox, and am watching season 4 of Merlin (I know, I know). As a family in lockdown we started watching Queens of Mystery on Acorn TV, which has been really fun actually.

What have you read and watched this past month?
