The BoMoSh August 1

Welcome to the BoMoSh!

The BoMoSh is a post for Books, Movies and Shows. I’ll be sharing what I’ve read and seen in the last month, and I always welcome suggestions for books, shows and movies. Leave me a comment if you think there’s something that I might enjoy.

Books | 5 and a bit

  • The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy, by Makenzie Lee (audiobook, re-read)
  • Truly Devious, by Maureen Johnson
  • Dumplin’, by Julie Murphy
  • Puddin‘, by Julie Murphy
  • Check, Please!, by Ngozi Ukazu (graphic novel)
  • Started reading Sheets, by Brenna Thummler (graphic novel)
  • Started reading The Vanishing Stair, by Maureen Johnson

Love a good audiobook re-read! I only read Lady’s Guide earlier this year, so for me to not only re-read a book but to re-read it within the same year as the first read … well. Times have changed. I loved it just as much the second time and highly recommend. Truly Devious was amazing, and I’m so enjoying reading The Vanishing Stair (the second book), despite being only a few pages in. I really enjoyed Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy, but Puddin’ wasn’t as good, in my opinion. But that may have to do with me not having much time when I was reading it to just sit and read, so therefore it took over a week to read and I wasn’t enthused. Both Check, Please! and Sheets are graphic novels; the former was really sweet and I’ve just started Sheets but have been told it’s pretty good.

Movies

  • Spiderman: Far From Home (2019)
  • The Lion King (2019)

Tom Holland is hands down the best Spiderman ever. Okay, granted, I’ve only seen one Andrew Garfield one (and then I’m not even sure if I have?), but Tom Holland is amazing, and Far From Home was awesome. Also, I spent a day this month with my eyes glued to Twitter trying to figure out the Disney-Sony feud that’s happeing over the Spiderman character, and what I can gather the negotiations might not be finished…but it also doesn’t look good for Spidey being in any future Marvel films. Which is mega sad and don’t even get me started. If you have more info on this, please do let me know!

The Lion King was a good movie, however I think it’s only good if you try not to take the original into consideration at all, which is hard to do when it’s a remake. You can read more of my thoughts on the 2019 Lion King movie here.

Shows

Derry Girls season two came out recently on ANZ Netflix so I managed to watch that in a few nights – highly recommend if you haven’t seen it. It’s a hilarious show about a group of girls at Catholic school in Derry, Northern Ireland. Top notch entertainment. I also continued with Lucifer, finished Stranger Things Season 3, and continued watching Season 6 Younger. Coming out in September on Netflix is Elite Season 2, which I’m looking forward to, as well as The Good Place Season 4 (the final season?).
