If you missed last month’s post, then in short, the BoMoSh is a new post for Books, Movies and Shows. I’ll be sharing what I’ve read and seen in the last month, and I always welcome suggestions for books, shows and movies. Leave me a comment if you think there’s something that I might enjoy.

I’m so annoyed at my book count this month. 3.5! And I blame it all on Children of Blood and Bone. As much as I wanted to love that book, I just didn’t. It took me nearly 4 whole weeks to read it and every time I picked it up it was a chore. There were definitely parts I really enjoyed but there were chapters where it was a real slog to read. Argh! I don’t know. Perhaps I was just reading it at the wrong time – maybe I’ll come back to it in a few years and re-read.

But after I finally got through that, I picked up Leah on the Off Beat and remembered why I love reading. Golly gosh, Becky Albertalli is a new favourite. I really enjoyed her debut novel, Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, and while I have yet to read The Upside of Unrequited, it’s definitely on the list. I also managed to read this month’s Blogger’s Bookshelf Book Club book, The Skeleton’s Holiday, which was a collection of short stories by Leonora Carrington.

Movies | 2

The Breaker Upperers (2018)
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

Only saw 2 movies this month, but was definitely aware that I need to catch up on a bunch. Eek! I’m so bad at watching movies by myself; I’d much rather watch a film with someone else, and TV shows by myself. Also, a 2 hour movie at 8pm is not nearly as appealing as 2 40-minute episodes, with the choice of not watching the second. You know? You know.

The Breaker Upperers was okay but not great. I was expecting more from an NZ film but alas, it just wasn’t as good as some of the others we’ve seen recently (hello Hunt for the Wilderpeople). I refuse to say anything about Infinity War, just in case.

Shows

Speaking of TV, a few seasons ended this month including Shadowhunters S3 and Riverdale S2. I’m eagerly waiting for Brooklyn 99 Season 5 to hit AUS/NZ Netflix (I figured it’s finished airing in the States so it must be coming soon, right?) so in the meantime, have been watching it from the beginning again. Also been loving The Mindy Project, and I’m up to Season 3.

Next Month…

Books – There are so many books I need to read this month! Must finish Thunderhead, and then I have a pile of library books I need to read ASAP, including The Inexplicable Logic of My Life
by Benjamin Alire Sáenz, Traitor to the Throne by Alwyn Hamilton and Meet Cute, which is Sophie‘s choice for Blogger’s Bookshelf Book Club this month. I’m also diving into something new this month: a graphic novel! I don’t usually read them, but someone suggested this one to me, saying they really loved the story, so it’s sitting on my ‘library must reads’ pile: The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang.

I also have bought recently The Graces by Laure Eve, The Queen’s Rising by Rebecca Ross and The Smoke Thieves by Sally Green. Hopefully, I’ll get through at least one of these new purchases.

Movies – Solo: A Star Wars Story must be watched this month. It must.

Shows – Really must finish up some of the seasons of show I’m watching before they all start coming back in October.
