Stack of 7 books on a white blanket. Book haul on This Splendid Shambles.

One giant book haul!

I’ve been writing book haul posts since 2013, can you believe it!? Here’s my very first book haul post if you’re interested. I think it’s fun looking back and seeing how my taste in books has changed over the years, and which books I bought back then that I loved and have re-read since, and those books which were a waste of time (tbh not that many).

In this month’s book haul, I’m actually sharing a pile of books that I got from Booktopia. If you’re looking for cheap books with fast shipping (and often free shipping! đŸ˜±) then Booktopia is for you! I love getting books from this Australian-based company, and despite the fact that I live in New Zealand, the shipping is really quick! Highly recommend!

This book haul arrived in two packages and you can actually see me unboxing them all here on my Instagram. But enough of the where; let’s get into the what.

Realm Breaker by Victoria Aveyard

Does the Red Queen series ring a bell? Victoria Aveyard is back with another Young Adult Fantasy, Realm Breaker. I really enjoyed the Red Queen series, so I have high hopes that this book will be just as good. If the description is anything to go on, then yes! It’s going to be good! Really looking forward to picking this up!

Gods & Monsters by Shelby Mahurin

I have a confession: I didn’t love the second in this series, Blood & Honey. But I really enjoyed the first series, Serpent & Dove, so I am here for the final book in the series! Gods & Monsters continues on from the second book, and while I didn’t love it, I do really want to know what’s going to happen.

The City of Zirdai by Maria V Snyder

The Eyes of Tamburah by Maria V. Snyder was such a great book! The City of Zirdai continues on from that book, and I can’t wait to dive back into this creative world that Snyder has created. I don’t even think I’ll need a recap before jumping back on it – so often I need to re-read my reviews of books I read over a year ago just to remember what they were about. But I remember nearly everything from this first book, so jumping into the second should be fine!

Gamora and Nebula by Mackenzi Lee

Last year I read Loki: Where Mischief Lies which was also by Mackenzi Lee, so when I saw that another superhero/Marvel book was being released that she had written, I was well excited! While I don’t usually read books about superheroes/villains that are already in existence (like Marvel or DC), I really enjoy Loki so maybe I do read those books now …? I’ll let you know after I’ve read Gamora and Nebula.

Perfect on Paper by Soophie Gonazales

I have to say, Perfect on Paper was a lot of fun. The idea that a high school student was running an ‘agony aunt’ style business from an unused locker is absolute genius.  I’ve only read Only Mostly Devastated by Gonzales, but if you’re a fan of Sophie Gonzales’ other books, or you like a good Young Adult romance story, then pick up Perfect on Paper.  You can check out my full review here.

Kate in Waiting by Becky Albertalli

If you’re looking for another story in the Creekwood universe (think Simon Vs the Homosapiens Agenda), then you’ll be disappointed by this book. However! Kate in Waiting, while not in the Creekwood world, was quite an enjoyable read. Like any Albertalli book, it had some great one-liners, funny characters, great friendships, and covered some really important themes throughout the story.

It’s not a favourite for me but it was still really enjoyable. You can check out my full review here.

Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson

Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson has been on my bookish radar for years. Literally years. It was published in 2014, and when it came out it was super popular. I have friends who love this book, and I’m only just getting on this bandwagon. I’m really looking forward to seeing what all the hype is about!

Have you read any of these books? Or had a book haul recently? Let me all about it in the comments!
