Dawsyn’s fight to save the people of the Ledge is far from over in this thrilling and highly anticipated sequel to the bestselling, Ledge

But hope finds her in the form of rescue by her village friends. Now on the run and struggling to tame her newly-gained and greatly unstable powers, Dawsyn's journey continues. Facing betrayal anew, she must learn patience and trust as she builds strength on all fronts, while she and her comrades recover and ready themselves for what's to come.

What is Chasm by Stacey McEwan about?
In Chasm by Stacey McEwan, Dawsyn’s fight for her people rages on … still. After her escaping from the Ledge and discovering the valley and world below the mountain, she’s now stuck in a dungeon, thrown in there after the Queens of the land stabbed her love, Ryon, and threw her in behind bars.
When she finally escapes, she knows she needs to do one thing: save her people from the Ledge. When (surprise!) Ryon turns out to be alive and semi-well, Dawsyn learns that he originally had plotted with the very Queens who threw her in the dungeon, and she is mega mad this betrayal and rightly so. So as Ryon and Dawsyn’s relationship is on the line, the two need to figure out how to work together, along with a mostly crew of their friends/acquaintances to get the people off the Ledge.
All while avoiding the recapture from the Queens, the potential death-bringing fury of the new king of Glacia, and all the other dangers that come with it. It’s pretty intense.
My thoughts on Chasm by Stacey McEwan
I really enjoyed the first in this series, Ledge, and was fascinated by the idea of a whole community living on a ledge on the edge of an icy mountain, with winged creatures coming every so often to ‘select’ one of them … never to be seen again. I mean, who wouldn’t love that?
Dawsyn’s character was moody and sassy and brilliant, and I loved the banter and the growing relationship she has with Ryon. I was really looking forward to Chasm, which is the second in the trilogy (the third is coming out in 2024 and is called Valley), and while I did enjoy it, I did feel like it was lacking in something.
The beginning was great – the ‘death’ of Ryon at the end of the first book was shocking but also … he’s a main character. He wouldn’t be dead. Right? Right. So back he comes and they meet up with the other characters we met in the first book, who are also great. Dawsyn is mad at Ryon for a betrayal and lying to her, even though she loves him deep down (like … deep deep down), and it’s all tense and uncomfortable and angry.
There seemed to be a lot of filler scenes that I think possibly could have been cut down a bit, as they made it drag in a few spots. The first book was so go-go-go and a lot was happening all the time, that I think the change of pace in this one threw me a little bit.
But! Overall, I did enjoy Chasm. We’re constantly learning more about this world that McEwan has created and I love hearing the backstory of the land, and the myths and legends, and being introduced to new characters, too. If you read Ledge then definitely pick up Chasm. Despite my few gripes with it, it was another great story overall.
Have you read Chasm? What did you think?
