I know you’re not getting blog traffic to your website. Is that a bold statement? Probably. But bear with me a moment as I unpack why I think you’re googling ‘how to get blog traffic’ on the regular.
The harsh truth of blogging is that it is hard. Especially when you’re starting out. There is so much to learn and to work through, and when you’re not seeing the traffic to your blog that you want to be getting, that you’ve been told you can get, then you can feel really discouraged, frustrated, and at times want to give up on blogging.
Luckily for us bloggers (yup, myself included!), there are things that we can do to help push our blogs out there into the world and start seeing more of the blog traffic come our way. And more importantly, blog traffic that is actually traffic full of the people we want to be reaching.
Here’s how I know you’re not getting any blog traffic:
You’re not:
- paying attention to SEO ❌
- writing what other people want to read ❌
- creating quality content ❌
- posting to a consistent schedule ❌
- doing anything other than hitting ‘publish’ ❌
… then the chances are pretty darn high that your traffic isn’t growing. Blogging takes work. And it takes time. And while we need to put in the time and be patient to see those numbers go up, see that we’re reaching the people we want to be reaching, we do need to help out blogs out.
They’re nothing without you.
And I think that sometimes we can forget that. Obviously, we want to get to the stage where our blogs are pretty passive, right? We want to be able to post great content and then see the people flock on in. We want to be able to monetize (if that’s what we want!). We want to be able to post something and know that it’s going to reach the people we want it to reach.
But our blogs are nothing without us doing some of that work for them.

How to get blog traffic – here’s what I do!
So how to we actually go about making some changes so that in a few months’ time when we open our analytics we see more people have been looking at our blogs? How do we ensure that we’re not just talking into the internet void?
Let’s talk about it! Here are a couple of changes you can look into if you’re not seeing that blog traffic.
Research your keywords
Research the words you’re going to use in your blog post, and make sure they’re good ones for your blog. Because yup, there are keywords that are going to work for you and keywords that possibly won’t.
Think about it – how many blog posts are there that talk about ‘chocolate muffin’? Probably, like a bijillion. But ‘gluten-free chocolate muffin recipe’ might be a lot less, and might be better to try and target.
The keywords we use are important, so make sure that you’re doing your research.
Audit your blog
It’s a good idea to have an audit of your blog every so often. This will give you the chance to think over your content and ask yourself if you’re creating posts that are resonating with your audience, or whether you need to try something new. Here are a few things you could audit:
- Style and design: Is it fast? User-friendly?
- Blog post content: Are you writing things that people want to read?
- Keywords: Are your keywords working for you or do you need to change them up? What about the overall keywords for your blog?
- Pages: Do your pages need updating in any way?
- Promoting: Are you sharing your blog posts on other platforms, like Facebook, Instagram, X, Pinterest, or even email?
Having an audit of these things (and whatever else you can think of!) and making some changes will help with your blog traffic.
Write quality blog posts
Ensure you’re writing quality blog posts that aren’t just for you. Things really started to change for my blog (and therefore me) when I started to write for other people and not just myself.
I do believe it’s important to write for YOU, and to write things that are enjoyable to YOU. But at the same time, it’s finding that balance between what I love to write and what, within that topic, other people will want to read. Because in order for people to come to my blog, in order to get that traffic to my blog, I need to share things that people are looking for.
And produce high-quality blog posts. Google and people like a higher quality of blog posts and not just blergh for the sake of writing something.
Have a blog planner
When I tell you that my blog was a 🔥 hot mess 🔥 before my blogging planner and calendar … that would be an understatement. As soon as I figured out the best way to plan and schedule my blogging content, the more consistent I got with my blog posts, and the more blog traffic came my way.
We have to publish posts for people to see them, and for our traffic to grow. So not having a plan can be a real hindrance.

Share your blog posts
We can be optimised for search engines to the MAX but it still helps our blog traffic if we also share out blog posts to other places like email, social media and Pinterest. Check out this post for tips for sharing your blog posts to your email list.
