Up at Snells Beach, there is a sculpture trail, called Brick Bay Sculpture Trail (and Winery!). The other day a group of about 16 of us went up there to check it out and it was really cool.
Brick Bay Sculpture Trail near Matakana showcases an ever-changing exhibition of around 45 contemporary sculptures, available for sale, by leading New Zealand artists. On the 2km trail, experience sculpture in a remarkable landscape framed by towering native trees, abundant birdlife and green pastures, overlooking the celebrated Brick Bay Vineyard. – Website

Like any sculpture trail, there are awesome sculptures, ones which are incredibly unique, and some which are odd but you have to think ‘each to their own’ and ‘you do you’ as you wander around.
As well as visual sculptures, there are sound exhibits too, one which sounded like stunning church music in among the trees. It was really beautiful, especially with the wildlife chirping and buzzing in the background.

At one part of the walk, you climb some stairs into the Kauri forest, tapping bells as you go up. At the top, there’s an exhibit called Plank, which is a collection of signs with words like ‘your floors’, ‘our flag poles’ and ‘chopping board’. It was pretty cool seeing them all there on the trees.
The walk takes about an hour or so, and it’s 2km. It’s fully boarded so it’s okay to do in all weather. I definitely recommend it. It’s a lot of fun and the sculptures change and ones are added periodically.
We also did some wine tasting at the end of our walk, which was delicious and I definitely bought some Rose. So yummy.
Have you been? What did you think? Or perhaps you’ve been to something similar?
