Have you visited the Franklin Road Christmas lights?
Is it even Christmastime if there isn’t a trip to see some Christmas lights? Is it even Christmas in Auckland if you don’t go and see the Franklin Road Christmas Lights?
Probably not, no. Every Christmas the majority of the houses along Franklin Road in Auckland’s central district light up their homes with Christmas lights and decorations. It’s definitely worth checking out if you’re in Auckland around this time. Just pick your time well, as it’s very busy every year, the footpaths streaming with festive-feeling people and their kids.

As well as the lights there are buskers along the road, playing Christmas carols and encouraging a good sing-along. People are often wandering with a snack from up on Ponsonby Road, and the Christmas cheer is high.
The other night we headed there after nightfall (about 9pm, in case you’re interested), and I managed to get a few snaps that weren’t blurry. There were people everywhere, like most nights I assume, and the whole atmosphere is just really neat and Christmassy.
Check out some of the photos…and apparently one of the New World Supermarket:

While it’s very similar every year, it is a lot of fun to wander down the street to see the lights. So I want to know: have you got a street or district in your city that goes all out for Christmas? Perhaps there are a few houses that are the go-to houses to check out each year? Let me know in the comments!
