June means it’s time for a Goodreads Reading Challenge update!
[Insert aghast statement about it being the middle of 2019 already!] With that out of the way, it’s time for another mid-year Goodreads Reading Challenge update! Every year I set myself a goal of books to read with Goodreads, and every year I share a bit of an update midway-ish through. Mostly for interest’s sake, but it also means I get to have a check up on how I’m doing.
This year I set myself a goal of 50 books, with the usual 5 Vow To Read books that we list on Blogger’s Bookshelf, and also a Vow of 5 books to reread this year, with Rants and Reviews podcast. I’m not doing very well on the VTR or the VTRR lists, but in terms of numbers, not too shabby! As of the end of June, I’ve read 30 books, and Goodreads tells me I’m 60% through the challenge already, and 8 books ahead. I think I’m going to make it just fine.
Books vowed to read | 3/5
- The Lightning Thief, by Rick Riordan
- The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy, by Mackenzi Lee
- King of Scars, by Leigh Barudgo
- P.S I Still Love You, by Jenny Han
- Truly Devious, by Maureen Johnson
Unlike most years, I actually have all these books on my shelves. I’m super stoked that I’ve already read three of them (if you know me at all it’s usually a mad scramble in December to try and read my VTR list in time!), and I’m looking forward to picking up the other too really soon. The ones I haven’t read are in … red.
Books vowed to ReRead | 1.5
- Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, by JK Rowling
- A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Bad Beginning, by Lemony Snicket
- Shadow and Bone series, by Leigh Bardugo (this is actually 3 books)
- Six of Crows duology, by Leigh Bardugo
- Fangirl, by Rainbow Rowell (check out our Rainbow Rowell podcast episode!)
This is a little hard to judge as to how well I’m going. I actually started re-reading The Bad Beginning on audiobook last year and didn’t quite make it through before it was sucked back into the audiobook abyss. I did re-read the first two books in the Shadow and Bone series, but haven’t make it to the third yet. Perhaps I’ll pick up one of these others when all my Publisher Request books are finished. Red are unread.
Top 5 books so far
- A Court of Thorns and Roses, by Sarah J Maas (apparently I didn’t even review this!)
- The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy, by Mackenzi Lee
- Four Dead Queens, by Astrid Scholte
- King of Scars, by Leigh Barudgo
- Girl, Wash Your Face, by Rachel Hollis
Planning to read next
There’s always going to be a long list of books that I’m planning to read, but as well as the ones I haven’t managed to get to yet on my VTR and VTRR, here’s just a few I’m hoping to pick up the following in the next 6 months:
- The Near Witch, by Victoria Schwab
- Tunnel of Bones, by Victoria Schwab (out in September)
- Once & Future, by Amy Rose Capetta
- Romanov, by Nadine Brandes
- A Curse So Dark and Lonely, by Brigid Kemmerer
