My thoughts on Immortal Reign

I don’t want to say too much about this book, given that it’s the last in a long series. Hopefully I’ve avoided spoilers for you, and it’s safe to continue reading.

Despite it being the final book in a fantasy series, I don’t feel like a lot actually happened in Immortal Reign. The main goal of the book was to make sure the immortal gods don’t destroy the world, but at the same time save all those people who had the magical beings trapped inside them. It’s a complicated place, Mytica.

Once again, I didn’t really warm to Jonas and Lucia. I asked in Book 5: Crystal Storm if Jonas would ever become less annoying. The answer is no. And yet somehow Lucia manages to get pretty close to topping that. Magnus and Cleo, on the other hand, make the book. I love both of their character development throughout this series, and it definitely shows here in book 6. Nic is, in a sense, in it a lot more, but not in the way we want (I’m trying to avoid spoilers here). Amara is crazy, but somehow you end up feeling for her. Ashur is epic the whole time and he wins the best character award.

While I didn’t care for some of the endings for a few of the characters, others were fantastic and I’m pleased they ended happily. Cleo gets her feminist groove on at the end too, which excites me to no end.

“I’ve found that in my life that love and attraction can take many forms. And if one is open to unexpected possibilities, there are no boundaries.”

And so we come to the end of a book series which I managed to read all within about 4 months, including having to wait about 6 weeks for Immortal Reign to be returned to the library. Overall, it’s a 4-star series. I mentioned in the first couple of books (the reviews of which you can find below) that I really enjoyed the stories, but there were a whole bunch of things that annoyed me, hence why none of them ever got a full 5-star. Having said that, an overall 4-star rating for an entire series is pretty darn good!

If you’re looking for a light-weight Young Adult series with a fantasy spin, then pick up Falling Kingdoms and see what you think. If you’ve like to read my review on the entire series, head over to Blogger’s Bookshelf.

Have you read Immortal Reign? Without giving any big spoilers away, what did you think?
