30 day harry potter challenge

Trying theo 30 Day Harry Potter Challenge … in one single blog post

Obviously a 20 Day Harry Potter Challenge this is something that usually happens over the course of 30 days, but I thought I’d share them all in one post, because it’s HP week, and ain’t nobody got time for 30 days. As you read through, feel free to let me know your answers to these questions in the comments below – I’d love to know what you think and what your favourite parts and books are!

1: Your favourite book

I’ve always loved the Prisoner of Azkaban, for several reasons: It’s a great length (not as short as the first two, but not as big as all the others), it’s still building on their classes and they’re still learning a lot of magical basics. They get to go to Hogsmeade for the first time, and it’s the introduction to Sirius, one of the best characters ever. It’s the book in which you really learn for the first about Harry’s parents’ pasts more, and it’s also the only book without Voldemort being super present. I also really love the last book. It’s just so good.

2: Your favourite movie

This is a bit of a hard one, really. I really love the first one, and I think they did a great job on the final movie too. But at the same time, I love the third one. Definitely hard to just pick one.

3: Is there any of the films adaptations that have made you angry because they’ve ignored important parts of the book?

Not ignored but added: how the Weasley’s house gets blown up in the movie (Deathly Hallows 1?) but that doesn’t happen in the book. Also, Padma and Parvati Patel are both in Gryffindor in the films, but Padma is in Ravenclaw in the books.

4: Least favourite female character

Lavender Brown – How annoying is she!?
Or Cho Chang – She totally rats them out in Half Blood Prince. Never was a big fan of her. Perhaps it’s just because I wanted Harry and Ginny together from the beginning, and Cho was standing in their way (let’s not even talk about Ginny’s string of boyfriends).

5: Favourite male character

Neville Longbottom – really the saviour of the day, rocking his cardigan. Or Sirius (sniff!).

6: What house would you want to be in?

Check out my Huffledor-Gryffinpuff post to find out!

7: Favourite female character

While I love Hermione for her proving that you can be smart and love books, and kick some serious butt at the same time, I love Luna and her craziness and never changing herself to fit in with the crowd.

8: What do you think would be your favourite lessons?

“No post on Sundays.” But in all seriousness, probably love conquers all…but also what Dumbledore said, ‘It does not do to dwell on dreams, and forget to live.’

9: Least favourite male character

Probably Lucius Malfoy, or Peter Pettigrew, or Barty Crouch Jr, though I find it difficult to narrow it down to even that. There are so many characters that I don’t like, but at the same time I do like. Snape, for obvious reasons…Crabbe and Goyle are just hilariously stupid, and then there’s Draco, but he tries so hard, and while it’s on the wrong side of the fight, you really do feel for him in the last book. I’m glad he gets a semi happy ending (I assume, reading ’19 years later’).

10: Horcruxes or Hallows.

Hallows, totally. I mean come on, I’m not Voldemort.

11: What character would you say you are most like?

Probably Luna. I seem to always get Luna when I do those online ‘What Harry Potter character are you?” Quizzes…and I have done many.

12: Favourite shop in Diagon Alley

I was lucky enough to be able to go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in London, and one part is a full size Diagon Alley. And yes, it was the best bit of the place. It was like we were actually there. I do love Ollivander’s, and all those wands ready for choosing people…but I would also love Weasley’s Wizarding Wheezes, which of course, arrives later in the story. The bookshop would be amazing too.

13: Least favourite movie

Goblet of Fire…although I don’t actually know. I think I don’t like it as much because they don’t have classes as much, and it’s the movie where all their hair is stupidly long. Seriously, boys, get a haircut. I do enjoy the Quidditch World Cup, though. That’s awesome and I think they did that really well, including the tent that’s basically a TARDIS (bigger on the inside…).

14: Favourite couple

I love Tonks and Lupin together, even if it were such a short amount of time. And I do love how Hermione and Ron do get together in the end. ‘Bloody brilliant’, as Ron would say.

15: Favourite Dumbledore Quote

Just one? There are so many great ones. I think one in my top 5 is definitely  “Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?”

16: Fave professor

After Dumbledore, right? Does Hagrid count? Probably not. Professor McGonagal, Professor Sprout (hello Mandrakes), and Professor Snape…because at the end of the day, he’s a hero.

17: Do you think that the Deathly Hallows movies did the book justice?

While the books will always be better, I did like the movies and I thought that they did a great job. There were, of course, some things that were missed out, like Phineas Nigellus Black’s portrait not being in it (or any of the Grimmauld Place talking portraits), and Hermione and Harry don’t dance in the book like they do in the tent in the movie, but I did really like how they animated The Tale of the Three Brothers. I thought they did that really well, and it emphasises the fact that Hermione is reading a children’s story.

18: Least favourite book.

Possibly Goblet of Fire, as it’s my least favourite movie too. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I never enjoyed it as much as the others. Don’t get me wrong, I still love it and I would rather read that than any other book…but out of the 7, it’s probably last in the line of favourites.

19: Do you prefer the books or films.

Books, for sure, but I do love the movies a lot and have had several marathons, watching them all in order.

20: If you had to meet one member of the cast, who would it be.

Emma Watson, because she is kicking the world’s butt at the moment. How amazing is she? I love the work she is doing with He is We, and being such an incredible female roll model for so many people. It’s truly fantastic. Oh, and Maggie Smith. Because, well…it’s Maggie Smith.

21: Out of all the characters that died, if you could bring one back, who would it be.

Sniff. Sirius! Sniff. And then Fred. And then Dobby. And then Tonks and Lupin. Everyone. Depressing!

22: Favourite Villain

Bellatrix Lestrange is pretty awesome in her villain-ness.  She knows how to do evil.

23: Any part of the books/movies that makes you cry.

When Dobby gets the sock, and then when he dies.

24: Any particular scene you wished would have been put in the movie but it wasn’t.

I really do like the house elves in the 5th book – Order of the Phoenix – and Hermione’s S.P.E.W campaign. It wasn’t in the movie at all, but I do understand why they took that out. It’s a huge part of the book, but it’s a long subplot that isn’t really too necessary to the entire ‘Let’s beat Voldemort’ plan. I feel ike they’d have to have created an entire movie just for the house elves. (Dear Warner Bros, maybe this could happen after Fantastic Beasts?)

25: Nineteen years later: Are you happy how it turned out, or do you wish something was different?

I think I’m pretty happy with the ending. It was nice to have it there, knowing how things went after the last battle. And I love how Harry and Ginny’s boy is called Albus Severus. And the very last sentence: All was well. Beautiful.

26: If you could be able to work one spell without a wand what would it be.

Wingardium Leviosa (not levioSA), because I don’t have a car and I always have way too much stuff when I have events and have to decorate. It’d be great to be able to just fly all my stuff to places, and just be carrying my bag. Or, failing that, Alohamora, because I always am carrying things and can never get my keys out my bag while holding boxes and extra bags.

27: Would you rather own The Invisibility Cloak, The Resurrection Stone or The Elder Wand.

I know I wouldn’t want the Resurrection Stone, but it’s a bit hard to pick from the other two. I think I’d actually have to go with Invisibility Cloak.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

28: Favourite book cover

This is a hard one because there are so many different publications and covers these days. I do love the original ones from Bloomsbury, but I do love these newer ones, especially Philosopher’s Stone, left.

29: Did you enjoy A Very Potter Musical?

Yes! Very much so. I actually only saw it for the first time last year, but it was brilliant, and I loved it. Darren Criss is fantastic, and it was so much fun to see him in something pre-Glee (the main thing I’ve seen him in). I also love Potter Puppet Pals. So funny.

30: What effect has Harry Potter made on your life and how much does it mean to you?

So much effect! As a part of the Harry Potter generation, it was a huge thing, waiting for the next book for a year, growing up with Harry, Ron and Hermione, and while I’m still waiting on my letter from Hogwarts, being able to go to the Warner Bros Studio Tour was nearly as exciting. Harry Potter launched me back into reading, which I haven’t stopped doing since, and taught me about friendship, and good and evil, and being yourself.

There we have it! Let me know what some of your answers to these would be!
