Let me guess: you start your blog with great excitement and hope for its amazing, incredible, spectacular future.
You got started, posting about things you really loved and that you were excited about … but then you hit a bit of a wall and it seemed like all your hard work and efforts weren’t paying off at all. You had no one commenting, you couldn’t figure out how to increase blog views, and you were getting ready to just throw in the towel and call it a day.
Stop.
Don’t throw in the towel just yet. There are lots of things that could be the problem there and even if you’ve got 90% of them all good and on point, it might just need a little bit of tweaking to get it to a good stage where your traffic starts coming in.
In this blog post, we’re going to take a look at how to increase blog views when you really got nothing.
How to Increase Blog Traffic Today
- Update your old blog posts
- Write captivating headlines
- Share your blog posts far and wide
Of course, there are more things you could be (and should be!) doing to grow your blog traffic, but today we’re just going to focus on these three things.
These things are quick and easy to do and should make good steps toward increasing your blog traffic.
Update your old blog posts
I first started blogging in 2009, though it wasn’t until 2010 that what you’re seeing now started to emerge. At the time of writing this blog post, it’s 2023, which means that my blog is coming up 13 years of existence. It is crazy to me that it’s been that long, but here we are.
Because I’ve been blogging for so long, there are hundreds (nay over 1000!) blog posts here. And those ones from the early days? Yeah, not great. Some of the bring in traffic, and some of them just don’t. But either way, every month I try and go back to some of those older posts and see what I can keep, tweak and chuck.
Oftentimes it ends up being quite a different post, or rather I rewrite it, making sure I think about the keywords I want to use for it (having used zero back in the day), changing up the images for something better, and making sure that the content is still relevant and up to date.
Just doing one or two of these today would make a difference to your blog.
As soon as you’ve got updated posts, that’s another post that people are going to be landing on. Especially if you’ve updated things like SEO and your headings.
Give it a go! Update old blog posts to try to increase your traffic, then give it a month or so and see if it works!

Write captivating headlines
Not gonna lie, writing captivating headlines is not my strong suit at all. But I do like learning about crafting shorter sections of text (like headlines and titles) and seeing what I can come up with.
When it comes to writing your headlines remember to:
- Use keywords
- Keep it shortish
- Make it click-worthy
- Use numbers and lists
- Use power words such as “ultimate,” “life-changing,” “mind-blowing,” or “essential”
- Try action words
- Such as “Discover,” “Master,” “Unlock,” “Boost”. These are action words – they prompt action in someway.
- Appeal to a particular audience if you can
- Say things such as “young adult” or “photographers” or “social media managers”

Share your blog posts far and wide
Okay so you’ve written a blog post, you’ve got a good headline, good SEO which should be doing most of the grunt work for you, and you’re pretty proud of it.
Now you gotta share it.
SEO should be doing most of the work for you, but there’s no harm in helping it out a little. And it’s quick and easy to do, and something that you can do today to increase your blog views.
Here are some tips:
- Make sure you have a Pinterest account. Seriously.
- Share it to your email list
- Either a short email giving a sneak peek of the post and prompting people to check it out further
- Or a longer post that gives away a lot of the blog post, but leaves the kicker out. Prompt them to check out the blog post
- Instagram and Facebook
- Share it on your socials! Let people know about it. If it’s Facebook, include the link straight back to the blog post. If it’s Instagram, add it to the link in your bio for a day or two, and create a Story with a clickable link to encourage people o check it out.
- Linkedin
- If you have a Linkedin account and it’s appropriate to share, do so! Ask people what they thought and get that conversation going.
BONUS: Guest Posting
Approach another blogger to guest post on their blog! Guest posting is a great way to build connections but also have a link on someone else’s site that leads back to yours. When your link is on other people’s blogs, that’s more traffic to your blog! And vice versa. It’s a win-win!
In reality, these things we’ve looked at in this post are just some of the things that you could look at when you’re hoping to grow your blog traffic. But it’s definitely a start!
So what do you reckon? Going to try a few of these things to increase your blog traffic today?
