One of the things that I think has truly made a huge difference to the fact that my blog is well over a decade old now, is having blogging friends. Being able to connect with bloggers online, knowing that they get it, and that they are having similar struggles to you (and similar wins!) can definitely help you with motivation and accountability, especially when things go a little haywire.
It can be a bit bamboozling figuring out how to connect with other bloggers online, so I thought what better way to give you some insights than tell you how I’ve gone about it in the fast, and hope that these help you, too!
Why should I have blogging friends?
But first let’s just comment on this for a moment: why should I have blogging friends? What’s the point?
And that’s fair, and I get that, I do. But here’s the thing. Having blogging friends over all my years in this space has meant that I’ve had:
- Friends who get it when I have a blogging-related win
- Friends who get it when I lose all my blog posts in an update
- Who have gone before me and have moved from platform to platform and can give tips
- Who have given me thoughts, opinions, and suggestions on things like website layout, branding, and user experience
- Who I’ve collaborated with (even started a podcast with one!)
- Who have shared ideas when I’ve been stuck
- Who have given me the accountability I need when I’m really not doing well with my blog
- And the motivation I needed at various times to get the thing done.
And honestly, there will be more. Blogging friends speak the same bloggy-language as you (even if they don’t speak the same language language, you know?), and in an online space where there is a lot of chatter and noise, that’s really important.

How to Connect with Other Bloggers Online
If having blogging friends is a bit of a no-brainer, something that is going to help you be a better blogger, then how do you actually go about finding said blogging friends? Where do you even start?
So glad you asked. 😉
Here are 5 places you could find your next blogging bff:
- In real life
- In Facebook groups
- On Instagram/TikTok
- On Threads
- On their blogs
In real life
Now this might not be the easiest, right off the bat, but I will say that I’ve found blogging friends in real life. Some of my friends own business and have subsequently got blogs to accompany their websites. Some of my friends I’ve met at events specifically for bloggers, and also for businesses. We used to have a local monthly gathering of bloggers who would get brunch together around Auckland, and it was such a fun time!
If your local community or city doesn’t do that sort of thing, you can still keep an ear out for things that might be happening in your niche and head along on the off-chance that you meet someone who also has experience in the online world.
A few examples:
- A book meet-up! Book readers love talking about books. There’s a high chance that someone at a book signing or author meet also has a book blog, or at least Bookstagram or Booktok, right? Those are you people, too. Your library might have events, too!
- Lifestyle events that might be happening. Perhaps you’re in home decor or upcycling, or you’re a baker! There are plenty of events like that throughout the year that you could head along to, get talking to people (even if that’s a little scary!)
- Business events are full of your people if you have a business. If they don’t have a blog, here’s your chance to tell them about why they should have one (or give them my name! I’ll help them out haha. 😊)
In Facebook Groups
There are SO many Facebook Groups out there to join. Whether you jump on in a generic blogging group or get really specific like ‘[your niche] bloggers’ or ‘SEO for Bloggers’ if you’re looking for specific skill help.
For finding new blogging friends, I’d be inclined to join more generic ones, where you can join in on the conversation, put your name out there a bit more, and even do things like look for guest posters. I’ve found over the years that Facebook Groups are great for collaboration too, and inevitably those collaborations turn into friendships.

On Instagram/TikTok
I’ve met many a blogging friend on Instagram! I don’t really use TikTok (at the writing of this blog post), but I’m sure it’s similar over there. When you’re following bloggers, you get to know them, but you also have the opportunity to comment on their posts, reply to their stories, have chats in the DMs.
While I haven’t met a lot of the people I would consider blogging friends in real life (mostly due to the fact they live in different countries), Instagram is where I have found a lot of them.
It might take a little work and might be the long-game, but you’ll soon figure out who you vibe with, who you have good chats with, and who you start sending Reels and memes too (that’s how you know they’re REALY a friend 🤣).
On Threads
Similarity on Threads! Or over on X if you’re still there. I’ve had so many conversations on Threads about blogging friendships and how to find them and make them and keep them. I’m also ranting about the importance of finding your people, and thankfully, so many people agreed!

On their blogs
If there are blogs that you love, comment on them. Share your thoughts and opinions, get connecting with people you genuinely want to get connected with. Yes, you can also find them on socials and connect that way, but bloggers love it when you comment on their blog posts, trust me!
Join The Blogging Room
If you’re looking for that connection with other bloggers, as well as personal support, accountability, motivation, and the opportunity to learn new sills along the way, then The Blogging Room might just be for you! (Sorry, lads. This one’s for the ladies!)
So whaddya think? I hope this has been helpful to see how I’ve connected with bloggers in the past, and what has worked for me. Obviously not every way is going to be ideal for you, but I hope that there’s something here that you can take and run with!
Let me know below if you’re involved in any blogging groups or how you made your blogging BFF!
