It’s a surprise to literally no one, no one anywhere, that I love blogging. I love the writing part, the photography, the connecting with other bloggers, the sharing of a little of my own life but also sharing what I’ve learnt over the years to help you and your own endeavours.
But you know what I also love? Taking a break.
Over the Christmas season I usually back away from the laptop for a little bit. No entirely, of course, because I do love writing and I want to be writing most days … but I step back in terms of any usual routine or pattern. I like to rest, to enjoy time with family and friends, and not have to be doing anything unless I really want to be.
Of course, I do want my blog to be ticking over and looking after itself, so there are some things that I like to do before the festive season to keep it going. In this post, we’re going to take a look at some of the ways I’ll be keeping my blog alive over the Christmas season, and i hope that these things are helpful for you during this time (or any other time you’re needed a bit of a break from the ol’ screen).
6 things I’m going to keep my blog alive over the Christmas season
- Plan ahead
- Schedule blog posts
- Schedule social media, too
- If need be: cut down the schedule a bit
- Write some ‘easy’ blog posts
- Create Evergreen content throughout the year
Plan ahead
I love planning. So much so that sometimes I’ll plan all my posts, feel super good about where we’re going … and then take an age to actually write the things because I had so much fun planning them.
But I do plan ahead, and I’d say usually I’m at least a month if not a quarter ahead of myself, when it comes to the plan of upcoming blog posts. During the Christmas season, this is especially important for me, so in late October or early November, I make sure that I’ve got a plan for December and into January because only then I can actually put words to ‘paper’ and get things done.

Schedule blog posts
Once I’ve got my plan and I’ve actually written all my blog posts, I schedule them.
My schedule usually looks like 3 x blog posts a week, but you’ll have a schedule that is likely different to mine. That might be 1 x week, or 5 x week, or something completely different. Regardless, I like to schedule all my blog posts ahead of time and rarely hit ‘publish’ straight away. It means that I’m remaining consistent with the content I’m publishing, even if I’m not actually present on the laptop to do it.
Schedule social media, too
And if I’m really onto it before Christmas, I’ll also schedule my social media (and email tbh). This would be for my blog coaching Instagram, my person/blog post Instagram, and also Threads and Facebook. I love using Metricool to do this, as it makes it super super easy to repurpose across platforms, too.
Social media is, of course, social, so I’m still on it most days chatting with people, or posting Christmas-related content on my stories, but the main grid posts for Instagram, and main posts on Facebook are all scheduled ahead of time, so I don’t have to think about that too much.

If need be: cut down the schedule a bit
Hey look, sometimes life happens and your plan doesn’t quite go accordingly. And that’s fine. If I ever get to the stage where I have a handful of blog posts ready but not enough for my usual schedule … and I’m ready to sign off for a week or two, then so be. I’ll change up my schedule to suit me and my life, and not the other way around. I’m not going to bust a gut trying to put out mediocre posts just to fill my self-made schedule.
I’ll cut the ‘usual’ down a bit and only post 2 x week or whatever it is. It’s not a big deal. It’s okay. The world won’t end. Promise.
Write some ‘easy’ blog posts
That being said, if you do want to create some still-epic content to fill up your schedule and your plan, then sometimes I’ll write some ‘easy’ posts. These are things that are still super handy and helpful for people, but perhaps take a little less effort on my part.
Things like list posts or round-ups, rather than long tutorials or step-by-step blog posts that need more brainpower to create or photographs to be taken. These ‘easy posts’ are still keyword-researched, they’re still optimised for search engines … they’re just not going to take too long to put together.
Another example of an ‘easy post’ is having some guest posts! These are written by other people, bloggers, business owners etc, so they’ve done the hard yards, and you’re sharing about them and their blog and content on your blog, so it’s a win-win situation.
Create Evergreen content throughout the year
This one may be slightly cheating, but one of the things that I like to do to keep my blog alive over the Christmas season is actually creating content throughout the year that keeps bringing people in, regardless of whether it’s Christmas or not.
These are non-seasonal posts, or ‘evergreen’ (like the trees). 🌳🌳🌳
Having these sorts of posts on my blog means that even if I lowered my schedule to 1 x post per week, or I didn’t share as much on social media, or I forgot to create new Pins for my blog posts that I’d scheduled … there are still blog posts that are bringing in the traffic because people love them no matter the time of year. And that’s what we love and want.
Of course, there are plenty of other ways you could go about keeping your blog alive over various busy seasons, but these are the things that I’ll tend to do. They also might change a little bit from year to year, but those are the main things that I would do. I hope they’re helpful!
I’d love to hear from you if you have any things that you do for your blog so you can let it live by itself for a while! 🤣 Let me know in the comments!
