the netflix book tag

The Netflix Book Tag was originally created by A Darker Shade of Whitney on YouTube, but I thought it sounded like fun so wanted to give it a go. Make sure you head on over to Whitney’s channel and check it out, or see all these other neat Netflix Book Tag answers from the book blogging community.

1. Recently Watched:The last book you finished reading

The latest book I read was Heartless, by Marrisa Meyer. It was really good, and I loved the spin on the Alice in Wonderland story we all know and love.

under the never sky

2. Top Picks: A book/books that have been recommended to you based on book you have previously read

Book: Under the Never Sky, by Veronica Rossi

Thanks to Good Reads, the recommendations are usually spot on. I think I had just finished reading either The Hunger Games or the Matched series by Aly Condie, and Good Reads was all like ‘hey hey there … haaaaave you met Veronica Rossi?’ And I was like ‘no, Goodreads, I haven’t. But I shall check this book out. Thank you kindly.” And I really enjoyed this series.

3. Recently Added: The last book you bought

The last book I bought was actually 5 books. You can see that haul coming soon!

city of bones fault in our starts

4. Popular on Netflix: Books that everyone knows about. (2 you’ve read and 2 you have read or have no interest in reading)

Books: Mortal Instruments, Cassandra Clare and The Fault in Our Stars by John Green.

For this question I went to Goodreads and decided to check out this list of Best Young Adult fiction. Two books that I have read are The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare and The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. And two I haven’t read and don’t really have any interest in reading are The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, and any of Sarah Dessan’s books. They just don’t really appeal.

5. Comedies: A funny book

Book: Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams

While I have yet to read books 3 and 4, I really like the first two in this ‘Trilogy of Four’.

6. Dramas: A character who is a drama queen/king

Book: Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen

Mrs. Bennett is the ultimate drama queen, both in the book and portrayed in the movie adaptations. So much drama, Mrs. Bennett! Calm the farm!

fangirl

7. Animated: A book with cartoons on the cover

Book: Fangirl, by Rainbow Rowell

Turns out I don’t have that many books with cartoons on the front, but this one was definitely in the back of my mind for this question. I really loved Fangirl, by Rainbow Rowell. If you liked Eleanor and Park, then you should definitely read this one.

carry on

8. Watch it again: A book/book series that you want to re-read

Books: Carry On, by Rainbow Rowell; The Under the Never Sky series,

You can read more about the books I want to re-read here, but here are just a couple. I really love these books and really want to read them again. I was putting it off because they wouldn’t count towards my Good Reads for the year, but now that Good Reads has added a re-reading feature, then hopefully I can make this happen!

the philosophy book

9. Documentaries: A non-fiction book you’d recommend to everyone

Book: The Philosophy Book

I literally don’t read any non-fiction books. It’s so bad I know. But I haven’t really found any that I really enjoy. I have a bunch on my shelves (including Yes Please by Amy Poehler which I’ve read great things about) but non-fiction doesn’t excite me. But I do have The Philosophy Book and it’s amazing, and the only thing I really have that still connects me to my Philosophy degree.

10. Action and Adventure: An action packed book

Book: The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien

Could also go for The Lord of the Rings, but this one is smaller. I love the Hobbit. It’s one of the only books we had to read in high school that I really enjoyed. Of course I had read it before then (which resulted in me getting top marks for that term), but man is it full of action and adventure.

“I’m going on an adventure!” – Bilbo in the movie adaptation.

lord of shadows

11. New Releases: A book that just came out or will be coming out soon that you can’t wait to read

Book: Lord of Shadows, by Cassandra Clare

This is actually just come out – last week in fact! I bought it straight away and can’t wait to get into it!

So that was the Netflix Book Tag! I thoroughly enjoyed having a crack at this one.
