My thoughts on Love, Creekwood

I don’t know about you, but I love Simon Vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda. It was such a fun book and I quickly fell in love with all the characters and their storylines. Also, there was a Ferris Wheel. And that’s always a good time.

Leah on the Offbeat, which follows different characters than Simon was another really fun book, again, with great characters and writing and plot. We get to know Leah a lot more, as we only got to know her a little bit/in lesser depth when she was a character in Simon Vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda.

Now we turned to Love, Creekwood novella. It’s a wee book, coming in at just over 100 pages, and it’s written in email form. Simon and Blue are missing each other like crazy, and Leah and Abby, while living together, jump on the email train too, and we read about their various lives through comments and jokes and reminiscing rather than reading them play out.

The four students email back and forth between each other, and on occasion, there’s an email chain with some of their other friends as they try and set up events, and get the low-down on what Simon is doing away from them all.

While I don’t love email formats in stories, I do think it was a good way for Albertalli to create this additional novella. Was the book needed? Well… not really no. Did it add anything to the storylines …? Maybe a little, but it would have totally fine without.

But it was a fun read and it was really nice to get back into the Creekwood universe and see how the squad was getting on after high school.

If you’ve read the others in the Creekwood series then this will be an entertaining read, just know there’s a lot of moping and ‘oh I miss you so much and I love you, you’re the best person ever’ throughout. Like a lot.
