Back in January, my friend told me I was going to be doing the Color Run with her this year, and I said “Um, okay! Sweet!” and that was that. Well, the day finally came, after months of waiting and getting our team of 5 together. The Color Run slogan is ‘The Happiest 5k on the Planet’, and guys, if every 5k were as happy as the Color Run, I’d exercise more.

We got up at stupid-o-clock in the morning on Sunday (6am), and headed over to the North Shore here in Auckland, with thousands of other people. After putting on our tutus and matching bandannas, we headed to the starting line and spent the next 45ish minutes (didn’t actually time it) ambling along the stadium ground route, where it was held.

Of course, the keen beans actually ran the Color Run, but where’s the fun in that? Don’t take it too seriously, friends! We walked the whole route, and made sure we got pictures as we were pelted with color at every kilometer mark.

At the end of the route, there was bubble machine, followed by a foam machine, and then we received medals and packs of colour. There was a dance party, followed by the throwing of more colour, and more colour, and hey, more colour!

I managed to score some free sunglasses, and if you’re ever heading along to a colour run anywhere then I highly suggest taking sunglasses. I had forgotten mine, but they would have been super handy. The colour tends to find it’s way onto your face and into your eyes, so having the sunglasses means you can still see all the colour flying everywhere, but it’s less likely to get into your eyes.

It truly was the happiest 5k on the planet. I’m so glad I did it, and while I feel like it’s something that you do once, if someone wanted to do it again, I would go with them. Definitely a lot of fun, and what made it even better was that we weren’t the only ones still covered in colour when we went to McDonalds afterwards. Perfect.

What about you? Have you done a colour run?
