Textures and Patterns at Auckland Zoo

One of my favourite places to visit is the zoo.

I love heading to the zoo, and have been to all but one in New Zealand. (Hamilton, I’m coming for you next!) I think part of the reason I love it so much, other than the amazing animals who call it home, is all the patterns and textures that you find along the way. I think I just invented a children’s game…

There’s something about the contrasting black and white of a zebra’s coat, the rough and leathery look of a rhino’s back, and the soft fluffy pink feathers of a flamingo that just draw me in.

Perhaps it’s because I’ve always been a lover of patterns, the simple ones and the complicated ones alike. Perhaps it’s because I love the animals. Perhaps it’s because every time I see a giraffe I just assume it’s name is Melman. Or a happy mixture of all three.

Whatever it is, I thought I’d share with you some of my favourite textures and patterns from my trip to the zoo this year. It’s not only animal coats, but the fences, displays, nature, a little bit of everything. You can see more on my FB page: Anjali Kay Photography.
