Welcome to the BoMoSh!
The BoMoSh is a post for Books, Movies and Shows. I’ll be sharing what I’ve read and seen in the last month, and I always welcome suggestions for books, shows and movies. Leave me a comment if you think there’s something that I might enjoy.
Books | 6.5
- The Daughters of Ys, by M.T. Anderson and Jo Rioux
- Yes No Maybe So, by Becky Albertalli and Aisha Saeed
- Highfire, by Eoin Colfer
- Only Mostly Devastated, by Sophie Gonzales
- I Go Quiet, by David Ouimet
- Chain of Gold, by Cassandra Clare
- The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, by Taylor Jenkins Reid (currently reading)
In March I read four books, so quite pleased with the number this month. Granted, two of them were graphic novels, but the rest were novels, and Chain of Gold, in true Cassandra Clare fashion was just over 600 pages (which feels like two books to me). The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is actually for our May Blogger’s Bookshelf Book Club theme, ‘a book with a number in the title’, but I got it on Kindle and accidentally started reading it and couldn’t stop … so I’m getting early in for the book club.
Movies | 5
- Frozen II (2019)
- The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
- The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
- The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
- Onward (2020)
Can you tell I’ve been home for the entire month? If you’re familiar with the BoMoSh roundups each month then you’ll be aware that, despite it being one-third of the name of this series, I actually watch very few movies. You’ll be lucky if you see even one movie on this list each month. I’m definitely more of a TV show gal, spending my evenings (when I can) watching an episode or two. But lockdown in New Zealand has seen me with completely free evenings, and a lot more time on my hands. Over the Easter weekend/week my family and I re-watched all three Lord of the Rings films, extended editions, which was a joy.
Finally watched Frozen II as well (which was so funny! Olaf is the star character, always), and we also checked out the last film from Disney Pixar, Onward. I had very little knowledge as to what it was going in – I think I had only seen the shorts, but not a full trailer? – and it was so random but also really fun!
Shows
You’d think having a lot of extra time not going out and filling my days with busy happenings out and about in the city would mean I could watch a lot more shows and catch up on some that I’ve been meaning to. You’d think. But I don’t really enjoy watching TV or movies during the day; I’ve plenty of other things that I could be doing that are optimal in daylight. So TV shows have been resigned to the evenings, as they would in ‘normal’ times. But I have managed to watch and catch up on a decent amount. I’ve caught up on The Magicians season 4 (which is based on Lev Grossman’s The Magicians series), as well as Elite season 3. My ‘short 20mins max’ show (which I usually have on the go or simply watch reruns of Parks and Rec) has been Single Parents, which is quite fun, and I’ve also been watching Roswell: New Mexico, which we get weekly on TV NZ on Demand.
What have you read and watched this past month?
