Book Haul #36

It happened again. I didn’t really mean for it to happen. I went out to buy makeup, and came home with 2 books. And then my friend wanted to head to the opshop to kill time, and I walked out with 5. Oops.

However, like I said in How to Find Cheap Books 101, none of these books were bought at retail price. The 2 I got from The Warehouse were on a ‘buy one, get one half price’ deal, which meant I really got each one for 75% of the retail price (right?), and then 4 were only $2.50 each, and the last one was $4. Can’t complain!

Enough maths, here’s what I ended up getting!

1 3

Empire of Storms, by Sarah J. Maas

I really really must get going with this series. I have read the first 2 and absolutely loved them, but it’s just been one of those series that I haven’t quite managed to get around to continue reading. Not because I don’t want to – I really do! – but just because of others books to read. I literally have everything Maas has written now, but still only read 2. Yikes.

The Last Star, by Rick Yancey

I read the first 2 in this series in about 3 days. So good. Excited to finish the series!

Tape, by Steven Camden

I’ve heard of this book before, but hadn’t really seen it around much. Until the opshop. It’s about two teenagers who connect across decades via  tape recording.

We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves, by Karen Joy Fowler

It’s only good things I’ve heard about this book. It was shorlisted for The Man Booker Price 2014, and is an international bestseller. What a score that I managed to pick it up for $2.50 then! Looking forward to eventually picking this book up.

5

The Golem’s Eye, by Jonathan Stroud

This is the second in the Bartimaeus Triology. Last year at the ASB 24 Hour Book Sale I managed to pick up books 1 and 3, knowing that one day I’d find number 2 for cheap. That day has come, my friends. The only down side is that it’s not the same size as the other 2. Super annoying.

The Jane Austen Book Club, by Karen Joy Fowler

As I have been writing this post, I have literally only just realised that I bought 2 books by the same author and didn’t even notice. I loved the movie adaptation of this book, so am in interested to see any chances that they made from the book.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Look-Glass, by Lewis Carroll

I already have this book, several times over, but I love it so much, and this copy is a dream. It’s super small, but it’s the ‘complete and unabridged’ version, with ‘colour illustrations throughout’ and it’s in such good nick. It’s super sweet, and I got it for $4.

And done. Phew. The next set of book hauls will likely be the beginning of November, as that’s when the ASB 24 Hour Book Sale happens (oh my word, you guys. So excited).

Have you hauled any books this week? Month? Year?
