Christchurch is one of my favourite cities in New Zealand.
Pre-2011 earthquakes Christchurch was a thriving hub of Cantabrians, with a fantastic city centre, and a beautiful mix of old and new buildings. Unfortunately, in the earthquakes of 2011 and from then on, the city was literally shaken apart. Buildings had to be demolished, homes had to be mended or knocked down, businesses had to move out, and the city centre was off limits.
Now in 2017, Christchurch is truly picking up again. I was down a few times this year, and have noticed a big change already. We headed into the CBD, now mostly open again to the public, and the businesses and shops are starting to come back, new (earthquake-savvy) buildings are popping up, and there’s a new feel of life in the city. Yes, there are still issues, these things take time, but it’s definitely on the up-and-up.
One of my favourite things from wandering around the CBD was seeing all the street art that currently dons the walls of the city. Banksy would be proud. From characters we all know, like the Cookie Monster and Hello Kitty, to original art, there’s a little bit of everything around Christchurch. it really does make for a fun meander through the buildings and road cones. Check out some of the neat street art we spotted while we were down there.

Have you been to Christchurch recently? Spotted any of these?
