You might be wondering ‘isn’t blogging for influencers or people who just wanna share about their day?’ Well, yes, and no. Blogging has changed vastly over the years, and now it’s no longer just those things; it’s far more. These days, it’s a really good idea to learn why blogging is important for business, especially if you’re just starting out with your business.

In this blog post, we’re going to tackle a few things, and hopefully, by the end of it, you’ll be able to recognise exactly why blogging is important for business and what you might do about it!

Let’s do it. 👊🏻

Why Blogging is Important for Business

  • It boosts SEO and drives traffic to your business
  • It helps establish you as an authority in your field
  • It builds relationships with your readers and customers
  • It provides tonnes of value
  • And it generates leads and sales

It boosts SEO and drives traffic to your business

Blogging is a brilliant way to improve your position in search results, for starters. SEO is one of the best ways that your future clients are going to find you.

By regularly creating blog posts that are relevant, interesting, and valuable to the people you want to be coming into your business, you can bump your blog posts (and therefore your business!) up in the Google rankings and hopefully get onto page 1.

Creating and writing blog posts that are optimised for Google – that is, you’ve done all the right things in your post to show Google that your content is going to be good – as well as having other people and websites link back to your website … this is going to help increase your visibility. Which means eyes on your blog. Which, in turn, means eyes on your business, and dollars in the bank. Blogging is an easy, low-cost way to increase your online visibility and drive more traffic to your website.

It helps establish you as an authority in your field

Blogging for business is a brilliant way to show people that you’re an authority in your field. And that’s what you want! You want people to think of you when they think of your niche.

I want people to think of me and head to my website when they need blogging help. And how am I going to get in front of their faces and prove that I should be the person they come to? By blogging!

By providing some epic content that my ideal client or customer is going to be looking for, my website has a higher chance (if I’ve done my research and my keywords are point) of getting on that first page of Google and into their faces.

Figuring out what to write and blog about for your niche might be challenging though! So here are a few examples, from a few different niches to get you thinking about your own.

Business: Clay jewellery creator

Blog post ideas

  • A guide to different types of clay and what you use for your jewellery
  • How to best match your jewellery to your outfit
  • What earrings styles suit different face shapes

Blog post ideas

  • Write a blog post about things people shouldn’t be doing in their business, and focus on the things that you can provide as a VA (eg they shouldn’t be spending hours on social media, they should be focusing on the money-making aspects of their biz. But you offer a social media package and can help them out)
  • Talk about some really great client management systems available
  • Write a post about the importance of email marketing and how to get started

Business: Gardening Centre

Blog post ideas

  • The best flowers to plant in spring
  • How to know when to pick your vegetables
  • Tips for gardening for beginners

In each of these cases, the blog post ideas I’ve put forward are all things that people with those interests are likely to be searching for. And when they land on your blog post about XYZ, they’ll discover that you actually provide more than just free blog post content.

Perhaps you provide a course or coaching, perhaps you sell the gardening tools that you chat about in your blog posts, perhaps they can actually buy the clay earrings straight from you, or perhaps they had been looking to learn about monetizing their social media but actually, it’s better if you do it.

And cha-ching! New customers.

It builds relationships with your readers and customers

Blogging also helps you build some really great relationships with your readers and your customers. When I lived in England, I followed a few blogs that were also England-based. I loved what they shared and I commented a lot on their website. Over time, we built up a relationship. And ended up buying things from their Etsy stores, they supported me in my endeavours, and we actually ended up working on a collaborative blog together.

Relationships matter. And they matter online to those readers and customers, even if you’ve never met them yet. The first time someone lands on your blog or your website, they have the chance of becoming a new client or customer. Make sure your blog is ready for them, that you come across as friendly, and that you reply to their comments or emails or messages.

When you build these relationships with people, they’re more likely to come back to your blog or your business.

It provides tonnes of valuable stuff for people

Blogging provides a lot of good info for people, even if they never become clients or customers for your business. Think about it. If you sold fabric from your brick-and-mortar shop (or heck, even if it were just an online shop!), and all you had up on your website was the fabric people could buy … you might get a few sales.

But if you had all those fabrics and a blog that was full of helpful information and valuable tidbits for people about the fabric, or about the projects they could make with them, or even the history of the material you were offering … how much more likely are they able to come back for more?

By having a blog and providing that valuable information for people you’re helping them in their own ventures, but you’re also putting your name on the map.

And it generates leads and sales

Imagine if every single blog post you publish brought in leads and sales for your business. Can you imagine? And that’s why blogging is important for business. You want to grow your biz, you want to help more people do things better (or provide them with a tool to do XYZ), you want to be able to live the life you’ve always wanted to live. And all that good stuff.

If blogging can bring in more leads which turn into more sales, why wouldn’t you want to click ‘New post’?

Common FAQs about blogging for business

How many blog posts should I have?

When you’re starting out, try to publish about 10 blog posts so people have something to peruse when they land on your website. Then set a schedule (see more below) and put out content regularly.

How often should I publish a blog post as a business?

There’s no clear-cut answer to this question. You need to find a schedule that suits you and your business. This might look like once a week, twice a week or three times a month! Set yourself a schedule and stick to it for at least 3 months before tweaking it, but know that you can adjust your schedule if you need to.

I’ve had my business for a long time. Is it too late to start a blog?

It is not too late to start a blog for your business! Not at all. If you’re not sure where to start, send me a message!

So why does your business need a blog? The long and short of it is: to grow your business. Can you have a business without a blog? Absolutely. For sure. But can a blog help your business to grow? Darn right, it can.

I hope this blog post has helped you understand why blogging is important for business. And it doesn’t matter what kind of business you have, there is room for you and your blog online.

If you need a hand with your business blog, I would love to help!
