Auckland Adventures power plant

In a nutshell:

A glittering nocturnal symphony

Other worldly sounds

Intoxicating atmospheres

That’s what the website says. Intrigued? So were we.

As part of this year’s Auckland Arts Festival, this incredible light show was set up called Power Plant. It was pretty darn neato burito.

I’m a sucker for lights – fairy lights, night lights, fireworks, twinkling lights, static lights, flashing lights, coloured lights, white lights – so when something like this comes along then I am there, front and centre. This has been the only Auckland Arts Festival event I’ve been to this year (in 2015 I went to see Phox at Aotea Square and that was really cool), but it was so great and so pretty that I’m totally happy that this was only thing I got to.

On the website, along with that nutshell explanation, it says:

As dusk falls, enter the magical world of Power Plant – a place where time is temporarily put on hold, where gramophones spin sparkling sounds, haunting whistles rise and fall, and shimmering flowers dance to their own tune.

Power Plant is a captivating nocturnal bush walk through enchanting, delicate light and sound installations created by five internationally acclaimed artists and New Zealand artist sonicsfromscratch.

See the trees, bush tracks and wildlife of the Domain in remarkable new ways. Take the opportunity to amble through Power Plant and illuminate your relationship with Auckland’s natural environment.

Follow in the footsteps of over 75,000 people around the world who have had a Power Plant experience.

It’s your turn now, Auckland.

It was definitely very very cool. Lots of the exhibits had sound clips attached to them, which made it all the more amazing.

It was kind of expensive for what it was – I don’t think I’d pay $35 again for it. I would have paid maybe $20 max, but it was a fun night out, and I’m glad I can say I got along to one of the Auckland Arts Festival events.

I haven’t quite mastered the night lights photography, but considering my struggle I’m pretty pleased with how some of these came out.

Did you head along to Power Plant this past week? Or another Auckland Arts Festival event? Let me know!
