How to Succeed at Blogging Without Social Media

Ever felt like you can’t have a successful blog unless you’re posting on Instagram five times a week, keeping up with TikTok trends, and basically living inside your phone? Same. For the longest time, I thought if I wasn’t “showing up” on social media, my blog would wither away.
Spoiler alert: it didn’t.
The truth is, blogging without social media is not only possible, but it can actually feel like you’re making progress, that it’s a bit of fresh air.
No more stressing about algorithms, no more “why did that Reel flop…again?” vibes, no more constant hamster wheel of content. Instead, you get to focus on the thing you actually started a blog for in the first place: writing and sharing stories that matter.
So if you’re ready to grow your blog without needing to dance on TikTok or spend every second refreshing your notifications, keep reading. I’ve got strategies, encouragement, and some tips to help you grow your blog … No Instagram required!

Why you don’t actually have to be on social media as a blogger
Look, I’ll be the first to tell you that having a social media account or two for your blog is a great thing to do. That’s where the people are, you can connect with others, showcase your blog in new ways (visually!), and spread the word when you publish new blog posts.
And we do need to make sure we’re diversifying where our traffic is coming from.
However! If social media really isn’t your jam, if you hate making carousels or Reels or TikToks, or you’re just posting a random image with ‘new post’ written on top … then what’s the point in spending time on that when it’s not actually helping your blog?
Unless you’re in a position to hire someone to create your content for you, it might be time to just step back.
Social media is not your only source of traffic for your blog. For me, it’s way down the list. Yes, I get some clicks here and there, but on the most part, it’s Google and Pinterest that really do the heavy lifting for me.
If you move social media aside for a while – even if you come back to it – you can focus on getting more blog content out there, creating Pins for Pinterest, and making sure your SEO is savvy and actually doing its job.
Blogging without Social Media – Here’s how to do it
So if you’re about to start blogging without social media (or at least take a break from social media for a while), how do we still drive traffic to our blogs? How do we connect with others and share our work? I’ve got some thoughts for you.
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
First and foremost, we need to make sure that our SEO is on point. There are certain things we need to do for our blog posts (and for our blog as a whole) to enable search engines like Google and Bing to actually find out our content and show it to people who are looking for it.
These are things like using keywords that work for your blog, using headings in our blog posts, structuring our blog posts well, making sure our site speed is nice and quick, thinking about things like Alt text and meta descriptions …
All of these things are going to help Google and other search engines actually show your content to people … without the need for social media.
Also, good SEO practices mean that you’re not getting weird spikes of traffic like you might with socials. You get more steady traffic, for years and years, and not just 24 hours.
Before you get angry at me, can I just reiterate: Pinterest is not a social media platform. Yes, there are ‘social like’ aspects to it – you can comment on people’s Pins, you can ‘follow’ people, you can even join groups and create collaborative Boards etc – but Pinterest, at the heart of it, is a search engine. A visual search engine.
Which means we have an incredible opportunity as bloggers to get traffic from Pinterest to our blogs. Pinterest is my second top source of traffic (just after Google), and I absolutely love it.
Email lists
Another way to blog without social media and to get that traffic to your blog, is email. And honestly, I waited far too long to start my list, and I regret it every time I think about what it could have looked like if I’d started sooner.
An email list is something you actually own (unlike your Instagram followers, who could disappear overnight if Zuck decided to move to a tropical island and shut it all down).
Your emails go straight into someone’s inbox, which means you’ve got a direct line to your readers – no algorithm standing in your way. Even with a small list, you can drive traffic to your posts, build relationships, and even make sales.
In my opinion, it’s better to have 100 people on your list than 10k followers you don’t control. So if you don’t have an email list yet, this is your sign to start.
Collaborations and Guest Posting
Guest posting is such a fun way to not only connect with other bloggers in our niche (or niche adjacent!), but also to bring in some traffic to our blogs. Another plus for blogging without social media!
Guest posting, in short, is when you write a blog post for someone else’s blog. You then get to have a link back to your own blog (which is great for SEO, too), and anytime someone lands on that blog post on the other person’s blog, the opportunity for them to click back to your blog is there for them.
Will they do that every single time? Probably not. But the option is there all the same.

Some strategies to blog without social media
While blogging has definitely changed a bit over the years, there are still some things you can do to continue blogging without social media. Here are a few things you could think about:
- Evergreen content: Focus on creating mostly evergreen content. Seasonal content is great, and absolutely, if it suits your site, add it to it. But evergreen is going to help you get traffic to your blog throughout the year.
- Content mapping: Figuring out how your blog posts link together is going to help Google recognise what your blog is about. You could try a tool such as Whimsical to visually map out your content and the links between them.
- Series: If it works for your niche, creating a series that engages your audience might mean they come back time and time again to check out the next instalment.
- CTAs: And always remember to add a CTA (if it works) to the end of your blog post. It might be as simple as ‘check out this related blog post’ or ‘sign up for my email to get this related freebie’. Something that means you’re more likely to get that reader coming back.
How to monetise your blog without social media
In a similar vein, you can still absolutely monetise your blog without social media. Here are some ways to do that, to get you started:
Affiliate marketing
Affiliate marketing is the practice of you sharing a link to a product that isn’t yours, and earning a commission if someone makes a sale. This is a brilliant way to earn some money for sharing about the tools, products, services and resources that you love.
To drive traffic to those links and earn the money, think about adding the links into your blog posts and focusing on getting that traffic to those posts using the strategies we’ve already talked about. You can also add affiliate links to your Pinterest pins and into your emails, too.
Selling your own products
Another way to monetise your blog without social media is to create a digital product that you can then sell to your readers. Perhaps it’s something you offer them after they’ve signed up for a freebie, or perhaps it’s something that you can add a link to in your blog posts.
Again, we want to be thinking about how we get people to the blog posts in order to see your products. This is where SEO comes back in.
Ads
As of writing this blog post, I’ve been playing around with ads a little bit. I’ve never had them set up on my blogs before, but over the course of 2025, I’ve been seeing what it might look like to have them on a more regular basis. In order to make money from ads, you’ll need to have a certain number of page views (often 10,000/month) in order to sign up to an agency, such as a Journey with MediaVine.
Then you’ll need to bring in the people so that they’re on your blog and the ads are being shown to them.
While many people don’t like ads (actually, myself!), they’re so common across the internet these days that I don’t think people mind as much as they used to. Or rather, they’re used to more and more these days. So don’t be afraid to give them a go!

It might take a mindset shift to blog without socials
It really might. There’s a bit of a mindset shift needed to happen to go from quick wins like a like or a follow, to being patient with things like page views, and getting traffic to your blog.
But the patience is going to pay off in the long run. Chasing trends or burning yourself out on social media when it’s not actually helping your blog grow isn’t going to be good for you in the long run.
Of course, if you are able to post well on your socials and upkeep your blog well, then absolutely! Social media is a great way to get your name out there a bit more. But if you’re struggling with both, focus on your blog first.
Quick-fire tips to start blogging without social media
If you’re ready to let go of social media, even for a time, then here are some quick-fire things you could do this week to help your blog out:
- Choose one post to update for SEO this week
- Draft a freebie to start growing your email list
- Pitch one guest post idea to another blogger
- Plan one piece of evergreen content for next month
Blogging without social media isn’t about “hiding away” or giving up. It’s about choosing strategies that actually work for you long term – SEO, email, collaborations, evergreen content – things that will keep your blog thriving while you enjoy a little more peace (and a lot less scrolling! 🙈).
You don’t need to be everywhere online to be successful. You just need to be consistent in the places that matter. And trust me, your future self will thank you when your blog traffic is humming along without you having to post a single Story.
So here’s my challenge for you: pick just one of the strategies from this post and try it this week. Update an old post for SEO. Start that email list you’ve been putting off. Pitch a guest post. Whatever feels doable.
