I took a visit to the vintage second-hand store in Royal Oak and it was brilliant
If you’ve been around here any length of time, then you may know that I love opshopping (charity stores, thrift stores). I also can’t resist a second-hand furniture store. When my Mum wanted to visit the Royal Oak Traders shop here in Auckland, I jumped at the chance to explore.
π‘ Please note:Β The Royal Oak Traders don’t currently have a website. However, you can check out their Localist listing here.
What is the Royal Oak Traders?
Located in Auckland, the Royal Oak Traders is a second-hand shop, which specifies buying and selling beautiful furniture. Many of the items that you can find are large furniture pieces made of oak, kauri and rimu, but there are an eclectic collection of small items too.
If you’re looking for a vintage find, then Royal Oak Traders is the place to visit. It’s a little-ish shop on one of the main thoroughfares in Royal Oak, Auckland, and it’s full to bursting with knick-knacks, old chairs and desks and sets of drawers, ornaments, old suitcases, lamps, vinyl, books…you name it, it’s probably in there somewhere.
It’s one of those stores where you have to be careful not to breathe too heavily, in fear of knocking something off its precarious perch. But it was really neat, and I will definitely be heading back there, even if it’s simply to look around.
I’m always unsure whether it’s okay to take pictures in shops, even opshops or second-hand stores like this, so while they aren’t great, I did manage to grab some pictures on my phone of some of the interesting things I saw in the shop.

Where is Royal Oak Traders?
Royal Oak Traders is located at 717 Mount Albert Road, Royal Oak, Auckland 1023, New Zealand. There is plenty of street parking, as well as the mall across the road where you can park.
It is a very busy part of the suburb though, so be careful crossing the road (there is a pedestrian crossing right outside – be sure to use it!) and opening your car door if you’re parking on a main street.
When do they open?
The Royal Oak Traders are open Thursday and Friday 10am – 5pm, and Saturday and Sunday 10am – 4:30pm.

As you can see just from the photos, the range of items is immense, and because it’s a second-hand shop, the items are always changing. You’ll discover things in there one visit, and a whole new range of items the next time.
That very last picture there, the yellow dress bust, I bought that. My mum kept asking me what the point of it was – it’s not one of those necklace holders like some of the ones you can buy, you know, a bust like this but with wires coming off it to hang things from? This one doesn’t have wires or even holes where wires could have previously been – and I just kept telling her that I liked it. And that’s reason enough.
What do you think? Do you like shops like this? Or are they your worst nightmare?
Have you been to the Royal Oak Traders store?
