"You want to know about The Bringer of Death."
It is Persephone's birthday, and she receives the ultimate gift: Hades confesses his desire for her, leading to their first kiss. But that doesn't necessarily make things easier for the goddess of spring, who is still in over her head in gossip-driven Olympus. Persephone feels intense guilt over the official breakup between Hades and Minthe, she is struggling to find her footing in her fast-paced job, and-worst of all-the shades of her past are slowly coming to light.
After an unexpected encounter with Apollo, Persephone flees into the depths of the Underworld. Concerned for her safety and determined to find her, Hades must team up with Artemis, Eros, and Hera, but they're working against a ticking clock. Zeus knows about the bloody secret in Persephone's past, and now the furious king of the gods will stop at nothing to bring her to justice.

What is Lore Olympus Vol 5 about?
Lore Olympus Vol 5 by Rachel Smythe picks off straight after we left off in Vol 4. It’s Persephone’s birthday and her gift is Hades telling her his feelings for her, and the two sharing their first kiss.
But, as the description of the book above says, that doesn’t make things any easier for Persephone in Olympus or the Underworld. She’s caught up still with the guilt she feels over Hades and Minthe breaking up (even though it wasn’t get fault), and she can’t really keep up with the job she’s meant to be doing.
Also, things from her past seem to be cropping up more and more these days. After she has an encounter with Apollo, she runs to the Underworld and Hades, along with a team of other gods, has to venture deep into the realm to find her. It’s all drama, let me tell you!
My thoughts on Lore Olympus Vol 5 by Rachel Smythe
If you haven’t caught on by now, I really love this series. I’ve mentioned before that I actually started reading the Webtoon version (where Rachel posts these episodes) back in 2019 but never got too far with it. I think it was me basically forgetting it existed and not just picking up my tablet to read the comic. That’s on me.
But fast forward to went they started releasing them as physical paperbacks (and hardcovers), and I was back in there. I absolutely love the illustrations that Smythe draws, and it’s made even better by the fact that I love Greek mythology (I studied Classics at school and Uni!). The combination of the two is a match made in Olympus (but you know, one that actually lasts).
Seeing Persephone and Hades’ relationship grow with each book and episode is a lot of fun, and while some of the other characters I lose track of a little bit in terms of what they look like and remembering who is who (despite the fact that I’m familiar with so many), it is a joy to be introduced or reintroduced to various Greek characters with each and every new book release.
If you haven’t read the Lore Olympus graphic novel series yet, you can check it out for free on Webtoon, or you can grab yourself a copy of the physical book. They look so good all lined up together, let me tell you!
If you’ve been following along with Lore Olympus (either physically or or online), how are you founding it? Who is your favourite character? Let me know!
