Magic Write on Canva is here! Recently Canva introduced a brand new tool to its (already new) Document feature. Magic Write is an innovative writing tool designed to help make writing easier and more interesting … basically, it’s an AI tool for writing and you can use it right there on Canva.
The idea is that you can use the Canva Magic Write AI tool to create outlines for blog posts, write whole paragraphs, or even whole posts. Though, if you read my blog post about AI and blogging, you’ll know that I don’t recommend using AI writers to write a whole blog post.
But it’s great for ideas, and starting things off for you.
In this blog post, we’re going to take a look at Canva’s Magic Write AI tool and everything it can do. We’ll also take a look at how you can use it as a blogger and why you might add it to your blogging toolkit.
What is Canva Magic Write?
Canva Magic Write is an AI-powered text editor that helps you quickly create engaging copy and writing. It can be used within Canva, and if you have a Canva Pro account, it’s free to use.
What are the benefits of using Canva Magic Write?
Using AI tools like Canva Magic Write, you can save a lot of time and effort. It’s great for outlining posts, drafting emails, creating lists and heaps more.
The main benefit I see it having is time-saving. If I know I want to write a blog post about XYZ but I’m not really sure where to start or which points I should tackle, using Magic Write on Canva is a brilliant way to get going.
Another benefit is that it’s right there in Canva. If you already have a Canva account (free or Pro) then you don’t need yet another account somewhere to remember your login for (not just me, right? ✋🏻). Using the Doc feature is so handy too, and Magic Write just adds to the ease or creation.
Getting Started with Canva Magic Write
How much is Magic Write?
It’s free! For anyone with a Canva account, you can use Magic Write for free. There are some limits, however,
- With a free Canva account, you get 25 lifetime Magic Write uses. While this is great to get a feel for the tool, it IS very limiting.
- With a Canva pro account (as well as Canva for Teams, and Canva Not for Profit accounts), the limit is 75 uses every month.
Obviously, the Pro account option is a lot better if you’re planning on using this a lot. You can sign up for a Canva Pro account here.
Setting Up Your Canva Account
Before you start using Magic Write, you’ll need a Free or Pro Canva account. If you don’t already have a Canva account, here’s how to set one up.
- Go to Canva.com
- Select ‘Sign Up’
- Enter your details
- You’re in!
How to use Magic Write in Canva
Once you have a Canva account, it’s super easy to use Magic Write. Check out these steps to start using the AI tool.
- Open your Canva account and login
- In the top right-hand corner, select ‘Create a Design’
- Choose ‘Doc’
- After Canva creates the doc, it will look like a word-processing document, and you can use it like so
- You’ll notice on the left-hand side, a little circle with a + icon appears. Click that.
- Select Magic Write
- Enter your prompt for what you want it to write for you (you can use up to 200 words for this prompt and it’s better to be quite specific)
- Hit enter
- Watch the magic happen.
Note: Remember that with any AI content tool, you’re using it as a guide. You’ll need to double-check the information it spits out, you’ll need to reword some parts, or delete parts altogether. It’s also not going to SOUND like you. Which is important. Yes, every post will be different and you might tackle it a little differently, but ultimately, you want it to sound like you. If it’s using words you just wouldn’t use, swap them or rearrange it.
Tips for using Canva’s Magic Write AI tool
So you’ve jumped on the magical AI writing tool on Canva. Hazaa! But what now? Here are some tips that are going to help you use Magic Write:
- Don’t forget to add a human touch to your content. You’re adding YOU to the work that Magic Write has simply started for you. Any AI content writer is great for creating content quickly, but adding a personal touch to the content will help make it more engaging and interesting for readers. And also … we’re always writing for humans.
- Always proofread and edit the content produced by the AI content writers, and make sure that the facts are correct. Sometimes they won’t be, or they’ll be slightly out. We want to make sure that what we’re saying is true, so always fact-check the content.
- Try using Canva’s AI tool to do more than just write for you. Have a play with what you ask Magic Write to spit out. For example, I might put in something like ‘write 20 Instagram hooks for a post about using Canva for blogging’ or perhaps ‘write 10 blog post ideas about travelling in New Zealand this summer’. You’ll be surprised at what it turns out for you!
- Use it in conjunction with your keyword tools, such as Ubersuggest, to really make the most of it.
Conclusion
I absolutely LOVE using Canva’s Magic Write AI tool. While I wouldn’t use it for writing an entire blog post, it’s wonderful for getting ideas, writing short captions or hooks for social media, and outlining blog posts.
Have you used Canva Magic Write for anything yet? What did you use it for? And how do you like it? Let me know in the comments!
