With Christmas and, in turn, Blogmas, right around the corner, you might be mulling over whether to participate in this blogging challenge this year. Perhaps you’re already thinking about Blogtober, and Blogmas is just too far away in your mind. But it creeps up on us, that’s for sure! So we’re going to take a look at some Blogmas Ideas, and these aren’t just ideas for what to write during blogmas, but rather some alternative ideas that might get you thinking about how else you might spend the Blogmas season.
What is Blogmas?
I really dive into it more in this Ultimate Guide to Blogmas, but in short, it’s a blogging challenge that some bloggers have taken up over the years, to post content throughout the month of December. There have been different ways to do this, which we’ll go over soon, but the most popular ones have been 12 Days of Blogmas, where you post 12 blog posts, or the full 25 Days of BLogmas, where you post, yup, 25 blog posts.
They can be Christmas-related (probably more common!), or you could use the time to share 12 posts on whatever you’d like.
The Challenges of Blogmas
Of course, when it comes to any challenge that involves you posting a multitude of posts on your blog, there are going to be challenges. And not just the overarching challenge that you’re taking part in.
- Challenge 1 – Time: Christmas is a busy season to begin with, so putting together 12 – 25 blog posts in the crazy season just isn’t going to work for a lot of people.
- Challenge 2 – Content: That’s a lot of posts, which means you gotta have that many ideas to actually turn into published blog posts. And if you’re niche is a little tricky or it’s just really niche, then it might not work for your blog.
- Challenge 3 – Wrong niche: Speaking of which, you might just be in a niche where Christmas-themed posts just aren’t going to work. While Christmas works for a lot of niches, you may find that you’re grasping at straws.
But what if you really want to do something for Blogmas?
And look, I thoroughly get that. I love Christmas, I love writing about Christmas, but honestly, doing 12 – 25 blog posts, even in advance, is a lot. So there has to be some other way that we can participate in a Blogmas-style challenge, but in our own way.

10 Blogmas Ideas for this December
If you’re up for it, 12 or 25 days of content is no mean feat! But if you’re anything like me, then that’s going to be too much. Here are some ideas that are still all about content creation that aren’t so extreme.
Traditional Blogmas
Okay, but we first just have to talk about the traditional ones. Initially (I believe), Blogmas was all about sharing a Christmas-themed blog post every day from December 1st to December 25th. You could absolutely do this if you’re up for it. Or switch it up a little bit, and still post your 25 (or 24) blog posts, but make them evergreen so that in the year to come, they’ll still get traffic to them.
12 Days of Christmas
12 Days of Christmas means that you’re sharing 12 days of content either in the days leading up to the 25th, or the days following, 25th December to 5th January. You could either do Christmas and Holiday-themed blog posts or post about whatever you’d like.
Mini-Series Blogmas
And now we’ll mix it up a little bit. You could do a mini-series and pick the duration. Whether that be a set of 6 – 10 blog posts (3 – 4 a week), or perhaps it’s a simple 3-post series, one for each week leading up to Christmas. Pick one theme that works with your niche, and publish an interconnected series.
Answer-a-Question December
This would be great for business. If you have questions that you find people are asking you all the time, why not answer them in a series of blog posts?
If you just have a handful, think about the ways you could turn them into blog posts that answer that question, and post them throughout the month. If you get a lot and you don’t already have an FAQ page, you could turn it into a detailed page for future clients/readers.
Listmas
This would be fun if lists are your jam! Again, whether you post every day or once a week, you could publish just lists. You could also make them Christmassy and festive if you wanted to, and it worked for your niche! Think about things like tools, books, movies, locations … whatever works for your niche.
Behind-the-Scenes
Bear with me. If you’re active on social media, you could post a behind-the-scenes post each day for December, and then at the end of the month (or come January when you have more time 🤣) compile them into a blog post for future readers. Think about things like your blogging process, or what tools you use, your workspace and workflow, or something that you’re doing each day for your blog.
Interview December
This is something you could do in the months leading up to December and then decide how many you’d like to post and schedule them. Interview some people in your niche. These could be videos if you’re active online in that way, or they might just be written interviews.
Top tip: if you send the general questions, you add more fluff to them when you get your answers back. What I mean by that is that you can almost talk to the content that they’ve written in the following question. You’re responding to the new informatino that you have, to make it sound like it was more of an in-person conversation. Here’s what I mean:
Written Question: How long have you been [doing the thing you’re doing]?
Written Answer: I started [the thing] in 2018, when I headed off to university and needed something to do with my time.
My tweaked next Question: Amazing! I definitely found myself picking up extra hobbies when I started at University because I found I had almost too much time on my hands. Do you have a favourite thing about [topic]?
The last question there Do you have a favourite thing about [topic]? would be what they got, but I’d added a bit of a response before adding that question into my blog post.
Collaboration Blogmas
If you’re super organised, you could make December the month of guest posts. Again, find a number that’ll work for you, and then contact the people you’d love to have as a guest on your blog. Make sure you’ve given them some guest posting guidelines, and then schedule them when you’d like throughout December.
Blog Post Advent Calendar
Pick a theme that works with your niche, and create an Advent series. This will absolutely still be one-a-day until the 24th, but you could mix it up a little bit if you wanted to. Perhaps you published a blog post a day on a particular theme, with email notifications for people wanting to follow along. Or perhaps it’s a tool you share, or a book you love … or, if you’re really keen, a bit of blog posts, freebie downloads, printables, or sales for your email list.
Create your own content challenge
So 12 posts and 25 posts aren’t for you. But maybe 6 is the golden number. Why not challenge yourself this blogmas to a you-decided number of blog posts? You make the rules!

12 Blogmas Ideas that Aren’t About Creating Blog Posts
The idea of Blogmas is a great one, so even if you’re not up to writing a bunch of blog posts and publishing them, I think we can use it to do something for the duration of the month (or at least up to the 25th). So here are some Blogmas ideas that you could do instead of publishing so many blog posts.
SEO Challenge
SEO is key to growing a blog. While yes, you can have personal blog posts that aren’t really focused on a specific keyword, we do need good SEO to help search engines know when and where to send people.
Why not use the 25 days leading up to Christmas as a chance to work on your SEO? Pick one small SEO task per day, and by the end of it, your blog will be so much better off!
Refresh your content
Instead of writing new blogs, why not go back through a blog post a day and update it? Think about the new information that may have come to light, or the ways that you could improve the posts for the coming year. Double-check things like links, too.
Pinterest Power-Up
I don’t know about you, but I’m notorious about forgetting to create new Pins for my new blog posts. Or just new Pins at all. Which is silly because I love Pinterest, and it brings in a lot of traffic for me. So why not spend December really putting effort into your Pinterest? Perhaps create a set of new Pins every day, and then use a tool like Tailwind to schedule them out.
Monetisation December
If you’ve been thinking about monetising your blog, then making a month dedicated to either learning how to do that or taking the steps you need to start bringing in the money is a great way to focus your attention. Whether that be learning about affiliate marketing, signing up to an ad agency, or learning how to create digital products you could sell.
Write 1,000 Words a Day
Remember NaNoWriMo? It doesn’t exist anymore, but the idea was to write a 50,000-word first draft of a novel over the course of November. Which meant that you’d be writing about 1,667 words every day. And while that sounds like a lot, the challenge got you to do the thing.
You could do a similar challenge for yourself and your blog. Doesn’t really matter if you’re not writing 1,000 words for your blog, but as long as you’re writing something. The act of writing, even a little something-something, will help you with your blog going forward.
Engage with your Community
Blog comments are few and far between these days, so a small challenge you could do for other bloggers (and also to connect with them) is to commit to commenting on someone’s blog post every day for December. Not only are you going to discover some great blogs that you might not have otherwise, but you’ll make them happy by leaving a comment, and who knows! You may even make a new friend or two!
Analytics Deep Dive
Like monetisation or SEO, perhaps this is a great time to dive into one particular thing and focus on it. And that thing might be your analytics. Spend some time in the month really digging into your analytics – even if you have to do some learning beforehand! – and figure out what’s working and what sort of flopped over the last year. Use that info to plan your next year.
Repurposing challenge
Repurposing is a blogger’s secret weapon. It really is. We have so much long-form content as bloggers, and it’s ripe for the picking. Either every day or again, pick a number, and see if you can repurpose a blog post into your other platforms. eg Instagram carousel, Reel and stories.
Tech Tidy-Up
Similar to an SEO audit, you could focus your time on cleaning up some back-end things like your site speed, plugins, broken links … or take a look at all the tools that you use for your blogging endeavours and figure out if you really need all of them in the year to come.
Keyword Gathering
Really get your next year on a roll and spend your December gathering new keywords that you could create content around in the next year. This will really give you a leg up in January, and you won’t need to do that part of your research when it comes to creating new blog posts. You’ve already done the world.
Build a Photo or Graphics Library
Spend each weekend (or when you have the time!) in December taking photos for the following year. If your niche allows it, batch-create branded photos or graphics, so that you have a bunch you can start the year with. Your challenge could be around timing – such as 2 hours every week for December – or it could be on the number of photographs taken (eg 100).
Brainstorm new blog posts every day
No idea is stupid. Spend 15 minutes every day of December leading up to Christmas, coming up with at least 5 new blog post ideas. Think about what did well in the past year, and what you could take into the next year.
So now you have a lot (like a lot) of Blogmas ideas for December this year. Whether you’re going to stick with the classic Blogmas challenge of 25 blog posts or even 12 Days of Blogmas, or you want to take up one (or two!) of these other ideas, I would absolutely love to hear about it!
